Anyone make thier own flight cases?

Mine aren't aesthetically pleasing, but they serve a purpose. They are solid, and protect my kit, as well as allowing me to connect things easily and tidily.

There's a lad on here who makes pretty ones, isn't there, my Southern friend. ;) ;)

I make my own cases and yes they do tend to be cheaper but it does depend
on how big they are and what you make them out of

Yes i make my own ,but i am a fully qualified master cabinet maker and have a fully dedicated workshop with the right machinery.
But to be honest with the rash of flight cases coming in from the Far East it really is not worth the time as pro fittings and the cost of alloy trims has risen quite a bit in the UK recently ,and you cant compete with one off items.

Yes i have to agree with tony,i used to make my own but with the hassle its easier to buy them now cause they work out around the same price but you save loads of time

I created a custom case a few years ago. I think I used 9mm ply, got speaker carpet and alloy fittings.
Cost much more than I thought, weighed a ton, but was very solid and still sitting in the garage... Dismantling will be a major job :-(

Visually, it was fairly neat, and met my needs at the time. I'd not do it again though!

no absolute rubish at it..... 9mm plywood painted black does the job but the ply does add weight but i think they look better than plastic boxes from b&q

yep made mine a few years ago - although it was only meant to be a temporary measure, until i built a decent one over 200 gigs and its still going strong.

I got fed up with the wedge shape boxes, so designed mine with a slopping front so that its a lot easeir to carry & not so much of a strain on my back :)

I also made a lid - total cost was about £15.00

As you will see from pic it is starting to look teh worse for wear now :(

it taught me a lot and when I finally get around to building one properly I hope it looks a lot better and i gem my measurements right !

Where did you get the extruded Aluminium section from for the edging/corners? I've had a dig around and haven't been able to find a supplier to date...?
