I have just come off the phone after turning down doing a street party Disco.
The reason that i did not want to do it was i was concerned about the weather, even a Gazebo would be a bit risky if there was a heavy down poor.

Just wondered if anyone on here is doing a street party Disco.

I done the Children In Need Gig from Cockermouth main Street in November.

Eventually got supplied with a decent tent which was well weighted down, and got the BBC to provide all the relevent PRS licence for me top do it.

Was quite a good night baring the usual breakdown in communications between the town council and the BBC ;)

I've done literally dozens of these and use a 3x3m gazebo with 4 removable sides - which can be unzipped for good weather. Mostly these were in winter (Nov/Dec) so a good chance of bad weather. Even cocooned in 4 sides the audio output is hardly impacted.

Generally you don't use a full rig - I'd typically use an old KAM deckstand with a vinyl banner across the front and two decent full-range active speakers on tripods.

The big issue is PRS and any local council permissions you might need - give them a bell and ask. They're usually very helpful.

we've done quite a few gala days during the summer months. Always had a decent gazebo but luckly never had a problem with the weather.

The organisers have arranged the PRS licence but ive usually had to provide my PAT & PLI certificates to the council people.

I've done a couple of gigs in a gazebo and during one of them it absolutely tipped it down, and I mean the heavens really did open. I think the world record was set for people cramming into the tiny gazebo, and those that couldn't just rain danced. None of the kit got wet. All I used for both gigs were a deckstand, frontage, an omni controller with the macbook (using the internal mixer option in traktor) and two KRK studio monitors elevated (which were perfect, both size and volume, so as not to disturb the neighbours). I used 1 Parbar and rigged two megbars and attached them to the horizontal plastic supports above head height that gave the gazebo a cool glow.

Gazebos are OK if connected to something and have a good metal structure and sides. Put the speaker high up and the gear in the middle with a seperate plastic throw just in case.

I would be more worried about chavs stealing something or old people moaning at me. :)

I would have just taken it. No problem if you make it clear you will need safe power and suitable weather protection. Is it for the royal wedding? If so, it seems regulations are being relaxed for street parties. The other issues mentioned here would appear to be the problem of the organiser.

I would not say I am posh. My last three cars were Subaru Impreza's and now I drive a white van :D
And you always get one miserable old person moaning even if you are playing in the mood or something.

I have done allot of daytime stuff in some semi dodgy areas and you just know that if you let it alone for a few mins something would go missing.
One time a group of lads hovered all gig. Definitely not to watch me Djing.

That was when i had my mac and VCI 300.

I now use a mk one pink Ipod shuffle :D

I wouldn't have thought you are allowed to set up and play music relatively loud in any old street? You're not allowed to use your horn past 10pm let alone a full blown disco :eek: :D

Special events notice especially on the royal wedding weekend, fireworks night etc.
If the council are organizing it then your sorted as they make the rules. :)

I know what you mean - moany old england can be very boring but people have rights I suppose.
Some of the noise limitations I have seen have been so ridiculous.

I blame a control freak rules and a load of pilled up idiots in the 90's having free parties :(
Thats why I love spain - you can have a street party with a 10k sound rig for a week and no one says a word.

This is almost getting political so i will say no more. :D
