I'm doing a Brazilian carnival theme night on Friday. Does anyone have any ideas on what to play? I've got the Lambada, but that might be a bit old fashioned for them as they will all be students.

I did a gig for some actual Brazilians last year.

Some of the requests:

Chiclete Com Banana = Diga Que Valeu / Não Vou Chorar
Grupo Revelacao = Deixa Acontecer / Velocidade Da Luz
Ivete Sangalo = Canibal / Festa
Jorge Ben = País Tropical (Rádio Version)
Martinho Da Vila = Devagar, Devagarinho / Mulheres

All went down well with the Brazilian contingent & most of the non Brazilians.

Not sure how well they'd go down if it's just a themed evening, but might be worth a pop. All readily available from reputable download sites

Its all about the drums with Carnival music. its almost a cross between latin and caribean dancehall.

You have some really smooth samba such as Águas de Março (Waters of March) and the really fast rio stuff like samba de janeiro
Im sure things like Conga - Gloria Estefan would be OK although its technically mexican.

Modern like mas que nada etc. too.

Save this till the end of the night!!!

Ray Barreto - Passtime paradise

Brill track. Stevie wonder cover. The percussion makes it perfect for carnival stuff.
Although its cuban/Salsa/funk or what ever - Great version of that with santana :)
Really long so a good one if you need the loo.
