I’m seeing loads of the big American events companies using vertical (totem) light trusses with uplighters and a moving head light on top. I love them and want to buy a couple…. But I can’t find anywhere that sells them? Can you get them in the UK?

I’ve searched Google, countless UK DJ suppliers and I’ve used the search on this forum…. Am I searching the wrong thing? I’m typing combinations of things like square totem truss, lighting truss and truss up lighting etc. :(

Thanks Bud, but, I can’t see the picture and people are talking about making them…. I want to just click buy now and have a couple of complete units turn up in two days with lights, covers and controllers. Not that good at DIY:daft:

Yeah thats what i said in my first post in that i dont think there is a place (may be wrong)

Surely it would be better to build your own that way you can custom it to fit your lights perfect etc

Anyway thats best i can do.

it really isnt hard - buy some lengths of truss and some base plates for them - done.

they get delivered you put them together and fit light - simple.

There are several places you can get them from. CR Services make them if you have around £1200 to spend.

I'd been contemplating going down the same route for several months. I took the plunge and bought the parts a week or so ago - they get delivered on Monday.

I'm hopeless at DIY too, so anything that involved any DIY'ing was out the question. There was the option of getting a fabricator to make me base plates for the truss but I just wanted to click and buy what I needed without all the hassle, but the outcome has probably been more costly than it might have been if I didn't take the lazy route.

As for where to buy - there's plenty of retailers in the UK that sell trussing. The stumbling block I found was finding heavy base plates for mounting the truss vertically. To date I've only found the one retailer in the UK that does them (Terralec (http://www.terralec.co.uk/trussing_accessories/heavy_steel_base_for_mobil_truss/15705_p.html)), but at £380 per plate they are quite expensive. The only other place I found that had what I wanted was Thomann (http://www.thomann.de/gb/global_truss_bodenplatte_multi_80x80_cm.htm?sid=e6 5a93031d28fd2f432fdc882a1bcdbc) in Germany; still expensive but less than the Terralec ones.

Hope it helps.

I didn’t realise it was that easy.... So about £500.00 for two inc base plates and tops then all I need to do is drill holes for the lights and attach some weighted bases. I think I’ve got some nice heavy black granite with glittery bits lying around somewhere... I could drill holes and attach the base plate to the underside of the granite.

Thanks everyone, I'll look into mkaing my own. Now... what up lighters and top lights do I go for???

If you look at some of the industry standard professional truss manufacturers such as thomas, slick, tomcat etc....

They all make bases and dont all require booting together as they use pins and clips which is far quicker.
Yes it costs more but its far superior to the like of astralight, trilight and global truss. although they are up for the job i wouldn't recommend using them for much els than what people do on here.

I did see these - £265 each and they're the Tri ones (I only like the square design) also the bases look a bit ugly and unstable... Thanks though.:)

I considered those too. I quite like the look of the bases of them if I'm honest, but wasn't sure how stable they'd be either.
