As per another post for a 550 I am looking for one with preferably some lenses.

recommend a 60D toby I upgraded to one last month.excellent although there is a 600d now out which is slightly cheaper with most of the same features worth looking up 18mp, HD video etc, top shutter is only 1/4000 flash sync to 1/200 and max burst is 6 @ 3.7fps Jpeg 34. No top LCD or rear input dial but has got a good initial review in photoplus canon. Same vari angle screen, wireless flash ISO range

But for the price is suits my uses and has excellent reviews for use in motion situations in the low light.

The going rate is £300 vs £700 for the 60D second hand.
I know i do not have video, double pixels and a cool screen but its a good camera.

Any of the canon range are good, certainly if you can stretch to a mid range 40,50, 60d. Although for the money 400d, 450d 500d etc are decnet camera's as well. There are those who prefer Nikon of course.

The 2-3 year old camera's are going for quite reasonable prices, especially if your content with 2nd hand. As Canon have brought out a regular succession of new models I believe it is pushing the price of the older camera's down quite quickly. Biggest issue is usually around dust on sensors. One of the most useful features of a 40d is live view, something that many DSLR's manufacturers have only recently adopted.

I love photography and felt I'd outgrown a 400d, and know I will get the most out of my 60d and it suits my needs.

As you record it is all down to your needs, if you can get a 40d for £300 then it is indeed a good price, and a good camera. It will be a good investment.

I had a 400d and it went for over £200 on ebay without lenses, just battery grip, body, and battery.
