In that order?

There are some right clankers there, but mostly good. Glad it went well

Yep in that order! :)

What would be 'clankers' in your opinion?

P.S. Can't say I've heard that word before.

Bit of an odd "flow" in places, but as long as it worked.

You jumped about a bit. Weren't the oldies running on and off every two minutes.

Very jumpy in terms of bpm's.

I wasnt there so dont take that comment too seriously if its what worked thats all that matters.

I think it looks fine. I agree it's nice to try and keep a 'flow' to it but BPM's etc really don't bother me and I'm guessing that unless you are into that kind of 'club' feel (and depending on the type of function it is), the customers aren't bothered either just as long as they can get up and dance and enjoy themselves.

I agree, good to switch it up regularly. DJ's often fall into the trap of playing a song just because it mixes or goes well with the one currently playing rather than looking at what the dancefloor needs.

...and I'll agree with you too!
An example from Christmas was when another DJ was in another room at my hotel residency. He was playing what I took as Hi NRG club remixes of christmas tracks and some of them sounded like they had 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' singing on them. I was chatting to the guy (this was before he decided to try and steal my residency!), and he said that he wanted to try and keep it uptempo....the thing is, it was the background music during the meal!

I can understand people playing remixes or extended mixes whilst doing club work etc but at weddings etc...well, I think personally that it's good to stick with the original mixes where possible.

There were hardly any oldies dancing at all. I would normaly do a fifteen minute rock an droll set at a wedding but the oldies just didn't seem up for anything.

I would say for 95% of the night the floor was full of 20's to 40's. The Gap Band was a request from a very attractive girl about 20 - 25 years old.

I did a lot of chit chat between tracks, introducing, banter etc. so bpm's were not that important.

Also I said in the intro there are requests in the list and if you have to fit them in, then you have to fit them in.

Can you be more precise, where in your view?

All the older ones are bang on, in my humble opinion. One or two ( actually quite a few ) of the modern ones are dross, as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't agree more, tosh, can't stand most of the stuff but if one must, then one must!

Thank you for the  http://planetsmilies.net/tongue-smiley-8862.gif

Couldn't agree more - a sudden change of direction can break up what might sound like one long repetitive beat.

Must admit I've had situations where there's been 30 - 40 seconds left on a track, had a brain freeze and ended up playing something next I wouldn't normally dream of, and from that I soon realised people would dance to any old song you bunged on next regardless of genre or BPM. So obviously the next step for me was to branch out into Weddings!

Edit - Reading this back - I can see how a few of them worked.

The first one I fully agree with you, in fact Telephone didn't get played then. It was starting but I overrode it as I didn't think it worked. If you have a look the Kascade mix went on two tracks later. It was a request too.

The last two were requests from the bride ... argue with that if you dare!!! :D
