Cortex 1000 crash

I had a strange crash on the cortex last night and wondered if anyone else has ever had the problem and resolution.
Twice it just decided that no hard drive was connected to it and I had to turn it off and on again to find hdd.

1: power connections and powered usb were in good

2: updated to newest update

3: database all verified

It didnt switch off or anything it just stopped the music and an onscreen message was " no input device found".

I don't know about anyone else, but I've never had that. :confused: :confused: Sounds like a cable problem? :confused:

I agree with Peter, could well be the connection==not had this and not heard of anyone elses machine being faulty either so could well be the case.

Are your connections between hard drive and Cortex continually being plugged and unplugged each gig?

Mine are and actually the USB lead has not been a problem but the mains lead to the HD power pack broke down ---its all down to coiling and uncoiling every time I use the unit.

Eventually the core cable breaks down--happened to my Radio Mike power pack lead as well.:eek:

Well I can give you an exact answer, not the exact answer. :(

It's obviously lost connection, I'd say, because I've never known it to let go of a drive it's found. :confused: When changing devices, it often needs a few attempts to reconnect, but that's par for the course.

The only thing ever disconnected is the hdd so I will replace the cables and see if it happens again

You might save yourself some time and grief( further loss of music on gig) by backtesting the connecting USB cable firstly by the "waggle test" .;)

Connect HD and Cortex, play music and then continually move the cable around to see if you can firstly replicate the problem.

Then you have an idea if it really is a connection problem.

If unable to recreate the problem by the "waggle test" then you need to probe further.

Consider--

HD USB connection on body of HD.

Cortex USB connection on body of Cortex

Usual fault finding procedure of using a known perfect piece of equipment.

If you had a second Cortex ( as some of us do) fault finding is a lot quicker.

Let us know of any progress.

Remember , just because a connection 'feels' secure it doesn't mean it is 'electricaly' secure as well.
I'm not familiar with your product and its connectors but it may be worth trying to test any connector / multi-plug that you can to ensure they do not contain any 'dodgy' connections.

in my experience "no input device" = connection issue

Don't ask me why, but also try de-fragging the HD and although the database is verified try doing it again.

The above has got me out of 2 problems I have had with the cortex. Once at a gig I got the same message, verified again and it worked great afterwards.

Had it happen once in an old pub - was down to power fluctuations from the mains - got extension lead out n plugged into a socket behind the bar cure the problem.

but to help diagnose teh problem set up at home with teh exact equipment and see if you can duplicate the problem, if not then probally the above.

If it does then turn of remove one item at teh time until just bare minimum left and if still doing it check all conections carefully.

If you are using a USB port - remove it and its power supply.

either way post on here the results and what the issue turned out to be as it may help others

I can believe you have to verify twice--thats typical of digital devices although never had an issue like that with my Cortex.;)
I find myself agreeing broadly with Alan. The Cortex in case two has had the same HD for over three years, never been defragged, never been verified. ( I'm on NTFS, dont know if that has a bearing. :confused: )

Erm--dont we verify every time we add tracks to our Hard Drive Peter :confused:

It says that in my handbook--just had to check :D

Or in my case I delete the .db file showing on the Hard Drive and tell the machine to update itself as it tells me it has no database each time?

Thats cos I deleted the .db file;)

Anyway obviously we are both doing the right thing.

The real reason for my post was to further suggest in the light of Steves latest comment that maybe testing the power pack to the Cortex might be an idea--the amount of abuse the cables get over the years in terms of being wound up and put in a bag might cause a failure for a few seconds:confused:

well I have tried and tried to get the same result i have wiggled, pulled even sworn at all the cables and she still keeps on playing, i`m going to verify it again but this time doing it the way you 2 do it by just deleting the DB. I am beginning to think it may have been the plug socket I was in as the one next to it had BAD SOCKET written on it.

I honestly don't know. I usually overwrite the existing database for a few updates, then delete and create new when I have a bit more time. "Verify" is what it asks when I put a memory stick in. I tell it no, and it seems happy enough. It never asks for verify with a HD. :confused:

You think you've got problems? I tested the PA at 2pm at home, worked perfectly. 6 pm in Lincoln, one sub missing. Next day at home, perfect. :confused: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Deleting database: Two things.
1) deleting it and creating a new one, though time consuming, ( could be worse. Get a D2 and it takes forever. :( :( :( :( ) is the recommended way.
2) Empty the recycle bin before creating the new one, or it may easily attempt to bring the old one back. Even my newest drive appears to have a music folder entitled "Recycle Bin " . I'm tempted to rename it "Modern", but I know I shouldn't.

I think Peter you made the OP THINK a Recycle Bin would appear on the HD feeding the Cortex.

Therefore he was looking to get it off ( the HD ) ;)

Obviously that doesnt happen its only the .db file that appears and gets deleted
( by me anyway)

Not that I have EVER had any problems at all with the procedures described --I know creating a new Database takes time--time for a cuppa Yorkshire Tea ;)
