Well it a impossible to answer. You would have different lists of songs for each type of party.Eg at a kids party depending on the age would be completety different than a 50th.

I think the idea was to list a couple for each.

I think Michael Jackson - Beat it. works well early on, I like the opening beat.

If it's a kids party I don't play any warmup. They are usually 2-2.5 hours and I am straight in there with the main tracks. I treat it like a 'clubbing night' for teenagers. I do 12-13 year olds upwards, rather than smaller children.

For any other party I would always work around the theme if there was one, otherwise I would just play slower tempo 100-110bpm tracks that I would normally play for the rest of the evening.

So let's say a 40th. Generally the 80s is popular era for those kind of parties so I would mix in a bit of Wet Wet Wet - Sweet Little Mystery, Madonna - True Blue etc etc, decent enough records, with a 'happy' vibe.

I also try and mix in some current 100-110 bpm stuff too, so I consider that most people of that age listen to Heart FM/Radio 2, watch TV at the weekends so if a song has been used on Dancing on Ice or X Factor then I may use that too.

It's horses for courses really as most of time people dont really care because they are chatting, :beer1: :beer1: :beer1: ing, and scoffing the buffet. It's more important to gauge the volume correctly and not blast them out too much. It's the last 2-3 hours that really matter, people expect to want to get up and dance at that time so wind up the volume a bit, turn on the flashy lights and bring out your best tracks.

Well said - As for warm up tracks try the ministry of sound rare groove funk album this stuff works well, like before anything 110 bpm below all depends on the crowd really
Doing a 40th on sat - customer wants 80s / 90s house
so gonna warm up with Chill out house and a disco / funk

Last week done an 80th - warmed up with Frank sinatra etc

Week before 30th - Warmed up with slow rnb/ 00s pop
all depends

In which case would you be playing 'Don't stop 'till you get enough'?

Surely that's more of a floor filler?
