When do you consider the start of your days work?

So you've got a gig tonight and your getting payed £xxx (Or in some of your case £x,xxx :D) But anyway, when do you consider yourself working?

Is your fee for the entertainment itself, i.e. 7pm - 12pm (ish)

Or is it from the moment you begin to load your car, van, trailer, horse, or whatever it is you will be transporting you gear in, to the moment the last XLR is back in its place at home.

Which will be from about 4.00pm - 1.30am (ish)

My point is "Working" for 4/5 hours, is very different from "Working" for 9.5 hours.

So when does your shift start and end?

Impossible to keep track of, as you have to factor in the time taking the initial enquiry and all the other admin jobs involved with running a business.

Even on a quiet week I probably do at least 20 hours before I've even gone out to do any gigs.

I'm working every day - dealing with enquiries, chasing leads, sorting playlists, checking equipment, checking for new tunes, networking, paperwork etc. So I don't really think of getting paid just for the night in question.

Putting that aside though - I consider my gig time starts from when I start to load the car to when I unload back at home again.

When I wake up which is usually 10am :D I got up 4pm today but thought it was 11 am as the shutters were down. :(

with a gig just the time I play as most events are local although I should calculate total time.

It is all included. depends on the market. £100 an hour is pretty good when compared with other professions.

No. about 1 hour booking meeting - 20 mins admin (plus fuel and other stuff)
so £80-90 hour

Thats 7 hours, plus the 1.5 hours admin and meeting, that;s 8.5 hours.

And you're earning £100 per hour.

You need to quote.

4 hours with 1 hour set up/pack up total. £80-90 hour.

Horses for courses - the local market dictates unless you're very different or have good marketing.
I have a simple set up and put most the effort in to the performance so it's good generally :)
