A quickie (I suspect for the Jocks or honary Jock Wild).

I've never done this at a Wedding and I've just been contacted by the Groom of one I'm doing next week to say there's been a change to the finale. He's been firmly told (by the bride) that as her side of the family are from Scotland the last song has to be Runrigs - Loch Lomond.

1. Which is the best version to use. I have two in my database - The version from Alba - Best of Runrig (6.24) and the Loch Lomond (Hampden Remix) (7.50  ) - or is there another definitive version that you guys use?

2. Do you make any announcements, call anything out - is there anything traditionally Scottish to say?

3. Do you play the full track from start to finish?

4. And what do the customers do on the dancefloor to this?

5. or do you play them out with it and use a wedding arch of somekind?

6. Should I mix out into the Braveheart theme :p :D :daft:

Yours Sincerely,

very confuddled - Kent (A long way from Scotland)!

That's the one I use.

Normally folks just congregate in one big circle around the dancefloor when they hear the first few bars of the song. with the Bride & Groom in the centre of the floor. As a lot of your guests might not be familiar with this as the show-closer for the evening, just make a quick announcement asking the guests to join the B&G on the dance-floor in a big circle.

3. Do you play the full track from start to finish?

Yep, it would sacrilege not too. :d Saying that, I sometimes skip the instrumental build up at the beginning and start it from the first vocal.

4. And what do the customers do on the dancefloor to this?

As mentioned above they normally are in one big circle around the dancefloor. Then when the song goes wilder around half way through..... so does the crowd. :d

Runrig is a great finisher due to the last burst of energy that it gives the crowd.. :)

Sean obviously knows all about this --I did one last year where they insisted on the track and I think it was the really long version--if that helps-- which sounded like it was live and went on for about 6 minutes or something silly.

Quite frankly if they have asked for it you just go on autopilot--

Announce and then sit back and enjoy the audience--I suppose the good thing is the youngsters know it as a Runrig song and the older ones know it as a traditional classic Scottish tune--

Its a sort of Auld Lang Syne moment with more energy;)

Needless to say goes down a storm:D :D :D

Afterwards I would stick on the Gay Gordons or something similar just to jig around to or maybe reel around;) -make sure you have burned them out and they go home happy.

Thats my style anyway:beer1:

Loch Lomond (Live) is the one I use (probably the same as Shaun). I stop the music and pretty much demand every sod gets on the dancefloor, play the whole tune with plenty of mic work to keep them singing. Cracking end of night tune with the right crowd.

Cheers lads, I'll get myself properly aquainted with the song over the next week. Both my versions sound live and the production on them sounds surprisingly good for live tracks i.e. good soundboard recordings.

Having listened through once earlier, I'll probably stick in a couple of hotcues at key points to give me some options.

Well, used this at the wedding last night. Can I just say my new favourite song that lasts 6 mins 24 secs has to be Loch Lomond

Trust the sweaty socks to come up with a slightly different version of the hokey cokey. It had a little bit of something for everyone in a big circle kind of a way, some happy clappy, jiggity jiggery, sing-a-longy, whole self in-whole self out plus the big finish.

It wa a brilliant ending to an otherwise mediocre night. Big up the Jock-a-rooooons. :D

I play it at most weddings (unless the couple want something different).

About 4 years ago an old hag of woman had severe and very strong words with me while I was packing up after a Wedding, "It your fault that so many couples get divorced. What are you doing playing Loch Lomond? Do you not understand the words? You must not play it. If you do then you have to play Auld Lang Syne at the end to undo the spell!!"

Needless to say I have always played the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, 1min30sec instrumental version of Auld Lang Syne at the end of ever gig ever since!!
