View Full Version : Wanted - Mackie Thump 18S Active Subwoofer

Hello fellow forum members,

I was wondering if any of you had a Mackie Thump 18S active subwoofer I could borrow for a gig or two to see what it is like and how it sounds before I make the big decision of buying one?

If any of you do, I am looking to borrow it on the 9th April if that is at all possible?

I am based in Buckinghamshire.

If you are thinking of buying, go to a shop and ask them if you can hire at a preferential rate. DJKit in Newbury sell these I think.

I have just checked out their stock list and I don't think they stock the sub woofer.

I will email them tomorrow morning to see if they can come up with anything.

I would phone them as john doesn't always check the emails.

and they can often source equipment if they don't stock it themselves.

Before I ring them tomorrow, is anyone able to offer me anything?

I don't mind if it isn't a Mackie Thump 18S but I would like it to be. Another sub I have been looking at is the DB Tech 15D or the Mackie SWA1501.

Any offers?

Thoman do some great budget subs as well. £288!

The box series is excellent.

I like the cl 115 as it has passive satellite outs as well for two extra speakers!
I run my whole rig off a 12 inch LD version of this.

I have got a feeling that the Mackie Thump 18S and SRM1801 are the sub woofers but just with different badges on the front? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I will send them a email to see what I can do. I have also seen the Mackie SWA1501 on there aswel, is this any good?

I am looking to keep my system matched if possible and I would like a bit more power than 220 watts RMS. I know it's not about the power, it's about the SPL but I feel I would be lacking power in the bottom end if I went for this.

You would be surprised. It is more than capable for any good sized hall.

The HK powerhouse is a better bet for the money. :)

I wasn't looking at buying a whole new system, I was only looking to add a sub woofer to my exsisting Tapco Thump 15A's for small to medium gigs.

If not, what can you offer?

I am only looking to borrow for a gig or two at the moment until I am ready to go ahead and purchase one.

I'm not really sure of the model etc - a bass speaker is a bass speaker to me. :o

I know it's the 15inch but often clips - I give it a good thrashing and it works well. :)

From previous pictures I have seen of your rig, your subwoofer looks to be the DB Tech sub 05.

The DB Tech Sub 05 only runs at 400 watts RMS at 129DB SPL level.

How high do you run your levels on the sub and tops and then the mixer?

It does clip for most events but I just knock it back slightly. I think there is an upgrade which most people on here would recommend.

If I was going to go for a DB Tech sub, I would get the DB Tech 15D, James Lake uses a pair of them with a pair of Mackie SRM 450 V2. I would like to hear what that system sound's like.

My point was that you can get a better sub than the Mackie for the same price but also have satellites out
should you ever need them (ie your using your actives in another room or wirelessly or one has broken etc.)

I don't think I will need the extra satalites out as I don't play in big enough rooms to warrent them.

Ideally, I would like to get a pair of decent active subs for under a £1000 if I can. If not, I would pay more money to get one decent one like the DB Tech 15D etc.
