OK Guys & Girls,

Take it easy on me......

www.odysseysl.co.uk

A couple of points to mention....

1. I like clean and simple websites.
2. I know the price page isn't working yet!
3. I don't have that many pictures of me doing events yet - only done a couple, and the pictures came out crap!
4. Can't get a form page to work, so i've taken it out completely!!!

Apart from that i'm open to all comments, good to downright rude!

urm no buttons work???

NeilP

For some reason you have to click them twice - almost like once to activate them and then again to make them work ..... you only have to do it the first time though i think!

Flash Buttons - don't you love 'em!

Nice idea, although your JPEG quality is a little too low, the graphics arn't looking as good as they should.

Two other points i would make:

- change the font....no one likes a times new roman site ;)
- your pictures, you've got some kiddies in there.....

NeilP

Wasn't sure about the font.... i'll have a play.

Kiddies - yes, but all the faces have been blurred out ..... or is that not good enough?

I'll also have a look at the Jpg quality

Cheers Will.

No problem. Try arial/tahoma/veranda, all good, plain and every computer has them installed (fonts that is)

Bluring out their faces is good enough I think, however they arn't blurred, or blurred enough!

Will.

Shaping up nicely :)

I looked at the site using Firefox, so I don't know if the same is happening in Internet Explorer, but couple of points:-

1. Something funny is happening with your logo at the top of the page.... It's fading?

2. You need to increase the margins for your boxes - the text is crashing into the edge

(See screen capture below)

It's OK is Explorer. Checked the site and am not sure why this may be happening.... any ideas anyone, or is it just a Firefox thing?

This might have something to do with it...

<div id="Layer2"
style="
position: absolute;
width: 200px;
height: 115px;
z-index: 2;
background-color: #FFFFFF;
layer-background-color: #FFFFFF;
border: 1px none #000000;
left: 4px;
top: 9px;

">
<img src="WB11.gif" width="441" height="138">

</div>

the sizes don't match

<div id="Layer2"
style="
position: absolute;
width: 441px;
height: 138px;
z-index: 2;
background-color: #FFFFFF;
layer-background-color: #FFFFFF;
border: 1px none #000000;
left: 4px;
top: 9px;

">
<img src="WB11.gif" width="441" height="138">

</div>

change them to match and it will work in firefox.

also try not to put style codes in tags, try to either put them in a stlye sheet in the <head>Here</head> tags or as an external style sheet.

and it really does help if your coding a page to space the code out so that you can see what your looking at lol, took me a while to figure out the problem, had to rewrite out the code to see it lol

Thanks Rattz

Matched up the sizes, so can you have a look again Angela (or anyone else using Firefox) to see if it has worked!!

With regards the other bits (complete gobbledegook to me i must admit), i use Dreamweaver and i did it all in Design view, so quite where it puts the code, in what tags etc is, at the moment, beyond me!! I realise that frames are not good for SEO and will, once i have a bit more time, change it to CSS or tables or something (all this even sounds a bit alien to me at the moment! :embarasse ).

I can see a trip to PC World for a copy of 'How to build a website for complete and utter Dummies' the even simpler to understand guide than the standard 'Dummies' version!! :teeth:

The logo/text on the header looks fine to me now (firefox)

Rattz

yep looks dead on now.

just got to adjust the text in the main frame to fit into the box properly, looks fine in IE but rubbish in firefox. This is the main problem with building websites, making it work in as many browsers as poss.

Plus you need to change the font on the Services page to match the rest of the site.

the main background image could do with being re-compressed, the edges on the radius corners are awful and bring the whole look of the page down

:confused: :confused: So why is the header still 'fading' when I look at it? :confused: :confused:

Scratch that - just had a thought. Even though I was opening up a new window to look at it, it was drawing info from my cache, rather than displaying the ammended page.... just refreshed - logo perfect now :teeth: :teeth:

Well, I assumed that when I open a new page, it will reference that new page from the web - not from my flippin' machine, as it clearly was doing..... OK, useless excuses over.... I'll get my coat. :embarasse :embarasse

i have to admit i'm looking forward to web 2.0 with full use of CSS and Xhtml, it SHOULD, should make coding decent looking and interactive non-flash/java websites a lot easier and more fun.

I do quite a bit of hand coding, especially when emedding html inside of PHP code. Dreamweaver 8 seems to have gone mad over DIVs though :mad:

I use tables all through my site. If used carefully then they still creates a nice simple layout. I am aware of style sheets and Dreamweaver but I just haven’t got the time to learn them – may be ignorant, but I would if I could. I still use Frontpage and edit the Java myself for the menus and buttons. There are still thousands of sites out there that are basic but very easy to navigate.

When I first discovered MDD, one of the first things I did was look at some of your sites. I see one of you uses frames – might be a little dated (no offence to the owner), but for the average user I think this is one of the easiest sites to navigate around.
