Hi,

The wedding season is looming and we thought it would be a good time to hold another Southampton DJ Association meeting!

This one is going to a midday lunch meeting at a Mexican restaurant in Portswood, Southampton.
http://www.labaroniarestaurant.co.uk/

Its a very informal meeting in which we get together and chat about all things DJ!
A meal is optional as well as drinks so its up to you.

You can also pop in for a short time and leave when ever you wish.

This meeting bring with you the following!

1: a story of the most interesting event you have covered!
2: a small piece of equipment that has impressed you for the price! Feel free to demo it too.

We already have about 12 confirmed so there is room for about another five or so!
Please let me know via email if you can attend and I will put you down on the list.

The one main reason for meeting is to share business leads rather than work against one another.
After all – we can only be in one venue a night and there is plenty of work to go round.

Thanks

Great. thanks paul - 10 confirmed now.

I have had one person say the following - below in red.

The language is a little over the top considering he is a multi-op with two other people :)
Its a shame as all I am trying to do is get some like minded people together for a sociable lunch. :(

Who agrees with this?
Its not as if we are shrinks or anything tied to a code of confidentiality
No one needs to mention venue or client names - just a bit of fun sharing experiences.

Due to Working Commitments, I regret to inform you, that my Company and it's associates can not attend this event.

I also personally feel that discussing the private events we host as DJ's is a breach of the trust bestowed upon us by our clients, and shows a lack professionalism and disrespect for the clients who use our services for whatever there function needs are.

We as a company look forward to your meetings to come, and hope that 'discusing' matter of the next meet is something we can accommodate.

Well that's another topic for the agenda!

Having attended a number of this kind of event over the last twelve months I've never heard a DJ talk about any client or event in a way I considered to be disrespectful. I would say they are more about learning from each others mistakes!

I wonder is the person who replied in red... is on any forums?? Or if any of their DJ's are on any forums!!!

I'll be there ( But will probably only have a few small colas... as I'm saving money for BENIDORM BABY!!! )

Exactly. Oh well we are all different I suppose. He has not been in the game for too long and I think this may be an excuse not to attend. :)
Some people like to keep business private, but thats his loss as he could gain some very good contacts by networking with us.

I dont think any member of the group would disagree with that! I have had some smashing
events from almost everyone now and given allot out too that i am booked for.

I do think the wording is very formal as we are not merchant bankers etc.
Everyone else who attends is a modern seasoned pro (especially you) and I have never had a reply like that?

Probably, but as a lurker. I owuld not have added it otherwise.
Anyway it is of no consequence as I have not mentioned or will mention who it is - just seeing if he had a point. ;)

I will buy you a nice drink. How is that. :) Get there on time though. :)

This person can 'personally feel' whatever he wants, fact of the matter is no one would be breaching anything.

Under the Data protection act (ie what the rest of the the country goes by), as long as we do not mention client names, addresses or dates of birth in any form of communication then there's to actual breach of personal information relating to a client

I have also seen this persons website. He should be more concerned with what the ASA would say about his over promising claims of having more songs and number ones than any other DJ in the Southampton/Portsmouth area rather than how other DJ's share their client related experiences!

I have also seen this persons website.

Thats irrelevant to the original discussion and goes against what we are trying to do by meeting.
I only posted that to see if anyone else agreed.

Allot of meets like these have been ruined by unnecessary beefs that develop over nothing.
This is a prime example so leave it there please!

No idea what your on about but It's up to them how they wish to conduct business and communicate.
Hopefully they will attend at the next one :)

False representation is alot more than "unnecessary beefs that develop over nothing".

A) It's Illegal
B) Ruins business for the rest of us in the Southampton/Portsmouth area.

That's why I take issue with them. I am at the end of the day entitled to my opinion.

Look at what they about Southampton/Portsmouth DJ's on their Portsmouth website.

Some great equipment demo'd and some good stories without breaching client/supplier confidentiality
More importantly an opportunity to have a friendly chat and network without any ego driven debates.

Nice day all round - another one in a month or two perhaps?

Was excellent. Learned a lot.

Toby if you arrange another one in a different venue I could demonstrate serato scratch better with decks.

Good Idea. I am planning a more interactive meeting and alternating them.

ie: month 1 - venue with lots of equipment and demos.
Month 2 - restaurant meeting - more informal.

And so on.
