Hi have set my full kit up today for the first time at home im using

Numark ICD Mix 2
Omni Controller
Laptop

2 American audio PXI 15 active speakers


I have a ground loop isolator to supposedly eliminate hum

when all connected to the aux input on the ICD Mix 2 Am getting a very loud hum which is not noticable when the music is playing also im getting bleed over to the other channels

the only way i have been able to eliminate the problem is to connect the lap top to the omni to the hum eliminator to the aux phono input

Any other ideas please that dont involve a hammer or buying more kit.

can i ask what you use as a main i brought the icd mix purely for best of both worlds but seriously think i'm going to just need a mixer i can use with the laptop and omni and have the icd mix as back up have been recommended to get a berringer but to be honest don't know where to start.

had an idj2 in the workshop the other day,extremely noisy output even from the balanced xlr's.apparently they are noted for it.

only thing i can think of is to get yourself a noise gate/compressor to mute it a bit.

I have a ground loop isolator connected to a djio then through my Numark cdmix2 mixer. I still get a bit of a hum with no music playing. It sounds great when music is playing so I am not that bothered now. If I did not have the ground loop isolator it would be horrendous with or without music playing.:)

have you got the laptop connected to the aux input or the phono I also found very very loud but maybe that's the powered speakers.

The humming I get is only when I use the mixer on it's own. The ground loop isolator stops everything from the laptop through the djio. The djio has a usb connection from laptop, then phono from output 1 to mixer line 1 input.

Indeed. I too have an IO, and since I use both channel outputs, I use two iosolators.

This is what I was thinking. To totally eliminate the electrical interference you would need to an isolator on each input device directly before plugging them in to the mixer. The isolator has to be at the end of the chain before the mixer or it won't be able to do it's job properly.

I use ground loop isolators all the time now and I don't have any interference noise problems at all.

the hum maybe coming from the USB connection from the laptop since it's probably earthed to the laptop.
Does the hum go away when you unplug the power supply to the laptop?

Martin, I'm confused. The Omni has two outputs, but you only have one spare ( AUX) input on the icdmix. How do you connect them? Have you tried not using the Omni, just connecting the laptop headphones out socket ( not the best way, but a useful elimination exercise. ) since I assume you have no other soundcard.

Please understand this, before one of us loses the will to live: The omni has TWO stereo outputs. ( Four plugs). The GLI has ONE stereo channel ( Two plugs)

I'm only using the one stereo out put...... the other is still there doing nothing just minding its own business waiting for some one to plug something into it.

Thank you. In which case, I'm missing a trick. I feel I owe you an apology. If I understand it correctly ( for I've never used an Omni ) outputs one and two are identical. I had assumed that they were Left Deck/Right Deck. My mistake. :o :o :o :o This newfangled technology.

I have been busy this evening so must have skipped your post, sorry....

The main purpose of this thread and my main complaint with the Numark ICD Mix was the bleed over to the other channels whilst using the laptop, with or without the Omni.

As to the feedback hum which has come to dominate this thread, it was an issue whilst music was being played. Having paid what I did I expected better and as another DJ I know said, and through this forum, the Numark Mix does have a noise issue which I decided was unacceptable for someone (i.e. me) trying to provide a professional service. For example, First Dance, nice slow song, or Best Man's speech, that you can't hear through the buzzing etc.

I will admit I'm new to this - I went out and brought a pile of junk before getting getting advice, and it has cost me dear!
