Ive got 1 booked where they dont want a first dance...purely because they are a very shy couple :)

My last 2 weddings were like that.

I convinced them to dance to something slow, and then 20 seconds into the slow track I mixed in a more upbeat song. They went with it and I really do think I pulled it off ;)

The 1st one started with Celine Dion - Power of Love, and I mixed into Editors - Munich

The 2nd began with Chicago - You're The Inspiration followed by The Killers - Mr.Brightside

Ok maybe a little unpredictable, but both nights carried on into early hours. My pocket jingled with nice overtime earnings :D :zip: :D

I have had a few without a first dance. There was one couple, earlier in the year I think, where they were really nervous about the first dance, to the point that 2 weeks before the wedding the bride was in tears on a night about the thought. My opinion is - if they don't want one don't have one.

At the end of the day, they want to enjoy and be relaxed throughout their wedding. What I do suggest is a 'Top Table' first dance where the B&G, parents, best man (and partner or chief bridesmaid) and the bridesmaids ALL take part in a dance to start off the nights dancing. This has worked very well.

I think the way weddings are these days tradition is not followed too closely.

only happened once in over 300 weddings. The bride really wanted one but the groom was totally unromantic. Felt sorry for her. He didn't dance all night. She dragged him up later for Endless Love. He was too drunk to notice!

I agree. I had two last year where I did the same thing (i.e. Top Table) and it worked out very well.

I've had a few that haven't had one for various reasons.

Quite common here - about 1 in 10 I'd say.

I've had the same.. One bride was in tears just about, and to the point, her bridesmaids got up with her and they all danced.

Your right in saying its their day and they are in control.

Last year two of the weddings I did, didnt have a first dance.

Had a couple myself and the end of the day its their day so no biggie with me if they dont want one.

I will nick that suggestion about the top table dance though :).

I've had a few that haven't wanted a First Dance. Also some people who do want one don't appear to have a 'special' tune and can't decide what to have until the last minute.

Me too, though I have found that if you play their 'special' song (if they have one), later in the evening and don't make a fuss, then they may have a dance then.

I've had that happen too. I also did a wedding for some friends who didn't have a first dance, but had one kind of forced on them later in the evening (that went OK, but I wouldn't recommend it for punters you don't know)

Of course some couples just don't have an "our song"
