Projector advice wanted

I'm looking in to buying a projector purely for the purpose of displaying images at gigs (at a wedding, photos of the wedding day; at a birthday, a slideshow of old pics of the subject, etc - you get the idea!). My budget isn't huge so I've been looking at the PICO range of projectors along the lines of this one:

Now, my question is does anyone have any experience of a PICO projector? Both Samsung and Philips make them, among others, so the technology appears to be emraced by the big names. But the brightness spec is 30 ANSI Lumens which, in terms of a normal projector, would be pants! Are they bright enough to disply photos on to say a 5' screen at the side of the stage? Will the picture quality be up to the job?

I am aware of more expensive traditional and LCD projectors so I'm not really looking for comments or recommendations in this market (unless they retail at £300 or less!). Any comments on the PICOs, though, would be very much appreciated!

Why not just go for a standard type of projector?

you'll easy get what you're looking for for £300, even less than that i'd say

Why not buy a second hand LCD projector from ebay? You could get a 2000 lumens with good bulb life for £100 or less.

Thing is, I've been looking in to these ultra-portable PICOs for a few weeks now and I've yet to come across a bad review. Obviously, you get what you pay for but it would seem that the price to quality ratio on these machines is really good.

As for decent LCD projectors, I was looking at one that caught my eye yesterday. It was a lovely projector with a lovely price - £1,299! I could get 6 PICOs for this!

As for the eBay suggestion, I don't do eBay! I have tried it once, was the highest bidder but had major problems with the seller and never got the item. The result? Never went back. Once bitten twice shy and all that!

Go for a DLP projector (google LCD vs DLP) and go for a complete ''plug & play'' unit :)
We use the VeiwSonic range and cant fault them.....

Worth having a trip to argos clearance shop in Stanley . I picked up 4 acer 3d short throw projectors for under £300 each.

I've bought about 8 projectors from ebay and got some really good bargains with hardly any lamp use - just like new for under £100.

How do you know the lamp life ?

It tells you on the projector menu. They usually put it on the ebay listing.

Hmm. I never thought of that place. I haven't been before but family members have mentioned it. I think I'll have a look over then when I get a chance. Thanks Chris. :beer1:
