Katy Perry - Firework
Usher - OMG
Chris Brown - Yeahx3

All have a real good chance of being the tunes to play for people getting married in 5/10 years time me thinks.

Damien - Time Warp (:D :D :D )
That wasn't released in the last 12 years (late 80's) never mind the last 12 months :daft:
Interesting to see people put Katy Perry's Firework down - For me it wasn't even really working at the time it was released or now for that matter.

Toby, don't worry about it - Damian was predominately a one hit wonder in the late 80's - We had him as a P.A at Rockfords (first nightclub i worked at) and he was a right bolshy snidey little queen TBH (I'm sure there are some more DJs on this forum (of a certain age) working the club circuit in those days will have come across Damian as well and can back be up on that) - He did an up tempo euro style version of the Time Warp.
And yes Richard O'Brien did indeed write the original Rocky Horror Picture Show which was a musical theatre production before the film was made.

First Valerie and now this? We work in different worlds Simon!
In all fairness all mine are ones that people sing along to without any encouragement so hence why I think they'll have some staying power.

I don't think anything that has been mentioned so far will have enough staying power to be played in 10 years.

 I do play Valerie mate, just not all the time, and certainly not as a 'floorfiller' - same with Perry's 'Firework' - I just don't think it's a good enough song right now, let alone 10 years down the line - I'm sure we playout many songs that are the same Neil ;)

'We Speak No Americano' has a good chance of sticking around for years to come IMHO - jaunty rhythm that old and young seem to enjoy.

In all honesty, I've had a look and I really think none at all from the last 12 months. There are one or two that you might play, but none of them will be floorfillers, I'm pretty sure of that.
By the way, I'm not one of the guys who constantly slate all new music and live in the past, but at the same time it has to be said that the amount of good, original material is exponentially declining.

You're right there. Everything now is just pretty much a rework of old material.
I did a gig the other week and got a good reaction to Vinylshakerz "Daddy Cool" from the youngsters. I thought it was funny that my mum danced to the same song when she was younger ;)

Me thinks this is to do with the decline in single sales - 50 % of the songs that I play at a bog standard party disco are 1 hit wonders - Rest are normally by major artists - I think the record lablels are looking more toward albumn / tour sales these days. THe old one hit wonders are not being marketed anymore and there is no profit for record companies so songs are going a miss. - this is my opinion good to hear your views

I did not know who damian was but I know they were released years ago now :p
I do think the GaGa stuff will be classics for a long time.
Such as the new one. It will gain popularity with time like a good wine.

tracks which are often ignored at their initial release can suddenly be re-born and stay around due to being in a film or just become part of the 'scene'.
Brown Eyed Girl was never a UK hit (due to limited air play, deemed risque lyrics) so we would all have missed that one in 1967. Sometimes they are good - sometimes they are bad

BUT people are growing up to this stuff so just because you don't like it doesnt mean it wont be popular in ten years time when it comes to their weddings.

I am finding a lot of clients are requesting all the old stuff that we used to go clubbing to at weddings and birthday parties a lot more
So maybe in 10 years time we may still be getting requests for wretch 32 and tinie tempah :S
I just want a couple of new tracks to be released that we can add to the PARTY CLASSIC folder of music we all use for floorfillers etc
Sex on fire - mr brightside - I gotta feeling - yeah / usher - low / flo rida - valerie - mr version - forget u - cee lo Good party tracks are being made but they are few and far between now

I do not know if this had been added but Buble everything and tracks similar are timeless IMO and very well written.
