Sometimes our site loads with truesoundhire.co.uk and sometimes www.truesoundhire.co.uk ?? ??

Then if you look over Google (site:***) some pages are indexed with the www. bit and some aren't ?

I've searched & read around but still cant quite understand what's going on here, any help or info would be fantastic.

Thanks

Tim,

To be honest with you.... www isn't needed. It's technically a "subdomain".

I have some script you can put into your joomla htaccess file which will auto rewrite everything to non-www if you wish.... or I have the other way too :)

No Probs.... I'm at the parents at the moment chilling in the sun with the lappy... so when I get home I'll find the coding on the main PC and email it over to you :)

Are you able to FTP to your site directly??

The entire www vs non www is a problem.
Search engines can see this a duplicate content, and could cause problems.
Also cookies will treat them differently.

Basically, put this below the "RewriteEngine On" inside your .htaccess
(once you've made a back-up copy!)

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]

The R=301 is the type of redirect used... This is a "permanent" redirect, so in time, google etc will only show the www version.
