For those of you that use movers - how do you attach them to truss or a double bar (in my case) using clamps?

I just can't picture how to do it.

They just hang down... i think you need to use two clamps though, usually there are 4 screws on the bottom of the head, you attach a bar between each pair of opposite screws and the clamp attaches in the middle.

Welcome to the world of 'movers' Daz. Good informative topic for me also as I don't have my moving heads attached to trussing yet, I may try them high up a some point though. They are my only effects that are situated on the floor. If I'm honest I quite like them on the ground

I've just measured that - that's massive!

A bit too big for me I think.

The annoying thing is, is that we moved a few years ago and I had one in my shed that I hadn't used for years, so I chucked it... :sad:

Heading slightly back on topic, Most of the Acme movers come with a bracket (like shown in Jamie's post) their pretty much identical, except you can only affix one clamp I believe.

Try the prolight colour changers, i picked up 4 of them for £200 (the 150w ones) and they look and work great. erm think thoman do them...erm hang on

I had some, but sold them...didn't think they were very bright.

I know that EVL do a set of four colour changers, all 250w for just under £300.

However, there is a set on eBay at the moment, supplied with leads and controller. He has sold a few sets in recent weeks and have gone for around £50-£100.

Do you use these and have you got any pictures?

I was looking at the IR4s which don't have rotating gobos and are cheaper due to the fact that they aren't discharge either.

Either a couple of those or a Martin EFX500 as a centrepiece.

Slight update to this.

I got the 4 movers deliivered in the week and used them last night and have to say they are stunning!

They're not DMX'd yet, but even running them through the CA8 creates a brilliant show. You can program the actual heads through the digital display on them, and determine whether you've got them on the floor or on truss, and you can invert the pan and the tilt on them so they go opposite ways.

The funny thing was, I generally never have guests talk to me about lighting, but last night I had 3 o4 people come and talk to me about them and loads of people watching them!

Highly recommended, even without smoke.

After having played with them for a day or so, I can really see the advantage of having the colours change differently etc

Don't worry Will, my dad has a DMX controller sitting in the garage doing nothing so i am going to have a look and see if i can programme the iSolution iShow 4s. However, i need to find another supplier of Chauvet spare parts as one of the buttons has cracked and i need to replace it. As of yet, Chauvet have been usless, and their parts company in Nottingham haven't been any better :(

I was also thinking of getting the Daslight kit at one stage and control the lighting using my laptop going through the USB interface..but that will have to wait :)

Yep, we have got a pair of iSolution iShow 4s, and are pretty good in my opinion. Nice gobos, nice colours and general good effect. Aparantly, iSolution use the iShow just like they use the iRock colour changer, and have produced an iShow scanner and barrel as a result :)

I would love to have the an iSolution rig, with the iMove 5s moving heads, iRock 5s and 5B scanners and barrels and the iShow 4s that we currently have...but its persuading my dad which will be the key.

However, our EVLs are playing up at the moment, so the prospect of moving heads may not be that far away :teeth:

They are 250w so they are pretty powerful.

I personally like them. The gobos are brilliant and the colours that can be created due to the separated colour wheel are truely awsome!

They fill up the room with light and as we sometimes have them shining on the dancefloor, they create a nice warm effect also :)

Chav-ette mate Chav-ette. Although i own a Chauvet controller.

Daslight is amazing software, well worth money, especially if your going to build your rig for the visualisation. I'm considering ordering myself one for our show, as the Chav-ette does limit me somewhat.

I admit, the controller isn't the best, but it was my dad that brought it home and not me :teeth:

He was on a job once and his customer happened to be a mobile DJ. Now they obviously got talking and he said that he didn't have much time on his hands and asked my dad if he wanted a unused 24 channel Chauvet Scene Setter DMX controller. He asked how much he wanted for it, and he said nothing. My dad was pleasently surprised and did the usual thing of trying to offer him some money, but he still declined.

So my dad went down the local supermarket and got him some beers, and got himself a 24 channel DMX controller in exchange :cool: Perhaps a 24 channel is better suited for a theatre type installation but still.

We had a play with it over a few weeks, but we didn't really get anywhere with it, and as my dad got a new job in the coming months after this, we haven't really had the time on our hands to programme it, and as a result, it has been sitting in the garage ever since.

However, i have got a little more time on my hands nowadays so im going to have a play with it, but i do need to find the replacement part. Im going to e-mail Chauvet and their parts supplier in Nottingham for a second time to see what they say.

Only 24 channels? ouch! You should about just be okay :). I use the DMX-50 which provides a bit more flexibility. Although one day I hope to use a Zero 88 Frog 2 (I'll let you google that one, and you can tell me what you think - lol).

I suggest you give DasLight a download (free software) from daslight.com (i think it is) have a play, it's well worth the £100 for the usb box (available from CPC).

Im just in the process of upgrading the full rig, i bought a pair of i-rock 5b barrells and they look stunning, my plan at the moment is to add a pair of i-show 4 flowers and a single i move 5s moving head in the centre, running thro an i-lead controller to start with then add to it as stuff comes up secondhand or as i can afford it. i will try and get a picture of the barrels but my camera isnt up to much

sorry i,m lost with these moving heads, if i want a couple what ones at mid range price should i be looking at?

depends what you class as mid range price, really. the usual cheapies are the ~£250 imove/spot knight/etc type things, which are all pretty much the same.

the new IM250S heads that i listed earlier today are a nice example of a mid range head. the futurelight PHS220 heads are better, though. they're more compact, the optics are better, and they are generally a better fixture.

as i say, it really depends what you class as mid range price... the prices jump from £250 up to about £600-£800, with not that much inbetween.

The starville 250w moving heads are great and retail around the £250 mark...

Personally i've just bought some EVL 150 Mini spot moving heads (this weekend) they are 2nd user but in good condition - got them for a great price too... works out to just under half the new price which was great :) .
