More Stolen Gear!

Was made aware of this last night and while I don't know the chap whos equipment was stolen I still want to make everyone aware of this incase any of the kit gets offered to you.

Police are investigating a shed burglary in Saul in which a large amount of disco/musical equipment was stolen.

Between 1am and 6.30am yesterday, Monday April 25, offenders forced entry to two sheds in the rear garden of a home in Framilode Passage in Saul.

Once inside they stole gardening equipment, including two strimmers, a chainsaw and a pressure washer, as well as a petrol generator and a large amount of disco/musical equipment.

Amongst the pieces of equipment stolen were: two automated Luminaire Spot Queen Lights, two Skytec speakers, an Antari fog machine, an Ilda laser show system, an LED DJ skirt, a Numark dual CD performance system, a Numark Axis 4 CDJ CD player, a Showtec LED seven flower light, a Showtec galactic blue star laser and a Genesis scan CDM scanners.

The total value of the stolen items is believed to be nearly £6000.

Three bicycles were also stolen in the burglary but these were found in Framilode later in the morning.

Officers are asking anyone with any information about the burglary, or the stolen items, to contactGloucestershire Police on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 154 of April 25.

I hate hearing about this... been there! dont think it will get this far up but will keep my eyes peeled... still looking for my stuff to turn up 17 months on... not got a chance!

I also hate this sort of crime. I will keep my eyes wide open on the various buying sites that I use to buy my genuine kit.

Disco equipment in a shed? Not the best place to keep your gear. I feel for the guy and hate scum that nick anything, but still its not the safest place to keep your gear.

Its not hindsight its just sheds are made of cheap wood which is easy to break into and nick stuff from.

And glass windows most the time. It does depend where you live but a targeted thief will love the fact you live in a nice quiet crime free neighborhood.

All it takes is google maps and an online availability checker. :eek:

Great time to come and nick gear - when your not in although people could lay in wait and got it on the return :(

But it shows when you might be in or even have a weekend or two off and may be on holiday. :)

Also people who list equipment and have a good gallery may help the thief by getting pre orders
as such as they know exactly what they will get.

I doubt this happens all the time but have no doubt it has happened.
This is the good thing about going minimal - nothing to steal :D

In the same respect they don't know when the rest of the family will be in, whether your gear is on site or in a lock up, what security you have etc etc.

I have pretty good security but at the end of the day, if someone wants to take your stuff...they will...or they'll have a bloody good go at getting it.

I feel sorry for the guy whose had his stuff nicked and anyone else too.

I have pretty good security but at the end of the day, if someone wants to take your stuff...they will...or they'll have a bloody good go at getting it.

Thats why I have a spare rig and spare HD unit with tracks and booking schedule on it at my dads. Its not just nicked you need to worry about, but total loss in a fire, etc can cause issues to your business.

Who has a recovery plan in case of theft or total loss? Interesting question. Its alright having backup gear, but is it stored with the main gear?

All of my accounts, bookings and everything that is done on the laptop is backed up too. My worst nightmare is losing stuff so I make sure I have copies. It is a pain in the backside copying and pasting every time but at the end of the day, if something happens, I know it will have been worth doing it.

I have a spare room where a lot of extra equipment is stored too. I have enough equipment now that I probably have back ups of back up (my original plan was to have several set ups because I wanted to have multiple DJ's out using my gear). The important thing (for me) is that IF anything did happen, it would not disrupt the business as I could carry on quite easily.

It's worth using something like Dropbox to keep valuable files remotely so you can access them from anywhere and also avoid issues if both laptops/drives get stolen/detroyed.
