Inspired by Charlie's unfortunate experiences, and Shaun, Trev and Gary expressing varying views, let's have a poll, eh?

Do you offer early setups? Do you prefer them? Do you charge for them? What do you class as early?

I think the earliest setup I ever did was three and a half days early!!!      ( And I'm sure I remember Shaun confessing to a one day early setup, but that was because he'd got the date wrong! :p :D :D :D :D :D :D )

Over to you folks.

Edit: Sorry folks, but I don't appear to have enabled multiple choice. Sorry. Pick the closest.

Early setup is just that, an early set up. I quote for that.

If they want an early setup, me to stay on site playing music or not then I'll quote for that.

If they want an early setup and it happens to be miles away then I'll quote for that.

I have done a few early setups near me i.e within 5 minutes drive and if it is to my advantage then I'll do it FOC.

I offer an all day price for any wedding I quote for (and highlight the advantages) - but I do not offer an early set-up where I go off-site.

I have made exceptions once or twice where the room isn't being used during the day, it's very local, I know the clients and I'm happy the room is secure. But only set-up deckstand, lights and speakers - playout, music and anything else easy to carry wasn't left there. It was more for my own convenience.

Blimey, I'm getting good with these buttons!    I've just posted a reply, and put Neil's name at the top of it. ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

You missed one Peter.:) I'll set up early, come back later, and all for free.

Which is what I would do if at all possible and as long as the venue was not too far away. (A lot more relaxed)

Specsavers, anyone? :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Sorry Mike, couldn't resist it.

Mike, there's a Golf Club about five minutes drive from me, where I sometimes do exactly that, depending on circumstances.

The above started as a joke, but after reading it again, it didn't sound as funny. I should possibly stick to DJing:D

If the gig is in the town then i will set it up in the afternoon if possible, then go home relax have t then go back later.I will not charge extra for this .

If however the gig was further away,i would not do this.i would turn up about 1 hour before then set up.

"No probs, I'll set it up, come back later, and it'll cost them"

There are allot of variables such as distance etc.

I am not a fan as it breaks my day up and something which i do not feel necessary in allot of situations as it only takes me 20mins at a push to set up.

Yep I will charge them a rate of £45 but will try too push for all day djing especially for marquees etc.

Depends but usually I charge. Sometimes its more handy for me... Like if ive got a kids party during the afternoon and a party on the evening... No charge.

Until recently my 2000 lbs gear setup prohibited me from the alterntatives of an early setup (it takes time to build a complete discoteque with a lot of lighting and effects at site - normally 1,5 hour)...

Now I also have a superlight alternative to set up in 10 minutes - and my heavy configuration will cost extra - a fair choice for the client... :D

I will also normally charge extra if the client wants an early setup with my small configuration...

I always include it in the quote if it's a marquee and then offer the option for me to remain on site for background music/mics for speeches.

There are a couple of venues where it's preferable to setup early as well, so again I just build it into the price.
