Hi guys,

With this place being the font of all knowledge, I thought I'd ask you lot ;)

Anyway, a friend of mine is a nightclub manager and he's toying with the idea of getting one or two of those hollyoood type searchlights that scan the sky. So....has anyone had any dealings with makes/models that would be suitable?

He's looking for an out and out purchase, and it doesnt have to be the absolute top of the range, just good enough to be seen throughout the town :)

Thanks

Steve

Ben is the best person to ask.

He has purchased a Sky tracker. If I'm correct...it's so powerful, he has to let the council know when/where he is using it!

...and if it's over a certain wattage/power rating or whatever they call it, you have to file a NOTAM (Notice To Airmen) so Pilots can avoid it.

You should let the CAA know of any form of lighting / lasers that point into the sky for any event and the permeant installation of searchlights will be subject to planning permission and local bylaws.

the cheaper search lights arn't as bright and do chew through lamps.

I've know Gordon (Skytracker-UK) very well and he's going to be your man for anything like this :)

He also deals with all the paper involved.....

Not too long ago I was flying at night and as I flew over Stafford a light must have been switched on and begger me was it bright! Made my eyesight go blurred for a few seconds.

When I got back to the airfield, I re-checked the NOTAMS and there was no mention of an event going on.

Lots of cowboys in the grown up world of events too I'm affraid! Should have notified the BTP as they sometimes like to go and shut down these events as they're dangerous to pilots!
