Howdy folks,
My first Jewish Wedding this Sunday.
Any tips & tricks for these kind of events?
I have met them beforehand and they have provided a disk (15 minutes long) to play after their first dance.
They love 90's/early 00's 'brit pop' - Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
I'm sure I'm stressing for no reason but any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance. :beer1:

My advice (helpfull or not) would be relax and treat it like any normal wedding unless they have instructed/asked/requested that you play a certain genre of music through out but im sure you will do a good job like you normally do mate.
Just remember two things.
1: Dont leave your phone in view or unattended
2: Dont forget your starcloth lol

Not familiar with Jewish Wedding customs, but for brit pop you need to look at artists like Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Dodgy, Shed Sheven, Sugergrass, Suede etc.
They're also probably likely to like Indie music either side of that so Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Primal Scream, The Farm, Wondersfuff going backwards and Kaiser Cheifs, Killers, Kings of Leon, Kasabian etc. going more modern, loads more to choose from but that should give you a few to start from.

Dave - Thank you mate...although I can't promise about the phone. :sj:
Danno - I'm not just saying this - but that's kind of what I thought 'Brit pop' was. Although, I haven't heard of that terminology before.
When I met them a few months back, we discussed music so he hasn't or doesn't feel the need to jot down some suggestions. My head was all over the place at the time so all I can remember is 'brit pop'
Cheers guys. Any more suggestions appreciated!
I keep a playlist of all Student / Indie tracks. If there are any glaringly obvious tracks that SHOULD be in this list I would like to know!!!!!
Also have a look at the wiki definition of Britpop to pick out some tracks for them and work with an indie list if it is really working,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Britpop_musicians
If the crowd are into it it should be a good one.
Wait until Shakermaker or Funkymook see this thread, they will surely put you right too,

Yes, I have heard of the 'term' but couldn't put my finger on what music it actually is.

Can't add much to the above, it's pretty well covered for BritPop and similar bands.
I'd keep to the well known Oasis, Blur, Pulp tracks to begin with to gauge the reaction. And at weddings I've always had success playing the Jam, Specials, early Madness with Britpop type bands as well.

Must admit, I thought it meant the cheesier 'eurovision' type pop :o

That's so far off the mark it's untrue.
The lines tend to get blurred (no pun intended) between Brit-Pop, late 80s / early 90s Baggy & more mainstream indie.
Groups that should come in handy:
Blur, Oasis, Suede, Mansun, Supergrass, Pulp, Elastica, Shed 7, Ash (although not technically British), Echobelly, Kenickie, the La's, the Coral, Lightning Seeds, the Bluetones, Ocean Colour Scene, Dodgy, James, the Boo Radleys, Cast, Lush, Menswear, the Verve, the Charlatans, Sleeper, Kula Shaker, Space.
Check out the wiki page here for some useful compilation albums from the era, although it's worth noting, not all the tracks listed could be defined as Brit-pop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best..._Album_in_the_World...Ever! (The Best..... Album in the World... Ever! )

Also as they are Jewish, check out Twenty Songs Of The Chosen Surfer: Meshugga Beach Party: Amazon.co.uk: MP3 Downloads I used a few from this at a Jewish wedding I did a few years back & they went down a storm, especially the version of Hava Nagila. (Check with them first though, as some of the more traditionalist there may not appreciate it)
