View Full Version : Backup or No Backup - that is the question?!

So.... with the modern day technology and everyone saying we should carry all the backup equipment should the worst case scenario happen, I was wondering how many of you actually do carry all the spare equipment such as spare amp, spare speakers, spare laptop, spare lights, spare mixer etc etc. and with the constraints on vehicle space is this feasible?!?!

As this is a poll your answers will be anonymous, but I'm sure it will spark a debate between a few!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday people - only four days till the weekend :)

There is a massive thread about this on here somewhere already....

Is there? The only one I could find is two pages long - hardly massive (although some interesting points), and no poll either...

From a couple of weeks ago: http://www.forum.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/showthread.php?t=32881&highlight=carry+backup

Seeing as they are so close together in time, I think I'll merge the two threads, then all the replies from members will be in the same place.

Ah - no point merging then, seeing as that one was only a few months ago and had a poll.

Fair enough, but this is another subject that has been done to death.

Not sure if I commented on the older threads...

For me, fuses, lamps, cables, pair of actives, 2nd playback (mixer+laptop), Mics, Headphone, extension cables.
The critical part is the sound. I run actives as my main PA, so no common amp to fail, but I do carry 2 other actives.

I don't know if this is overboard or not. I've got space in the van, and would not want a single failure to result in an early night for a client. I don't consider lighting to be critical, but normally have a few LED pars in the van - so worst case these can be run sound to light.

I essence, yes, I carry backup of everything. I might not have a duplicate of every lighting effect but I carry additional lighting (couple of imove's) in the van.

Also carry spare set of actives, spare deckstand, spare speaker poles, spare flightcase with full backup playout and mixer.....spare everything really. Probably overkill but I'm glad I do. A few months ago I forgot to put the serge wool covering for my DSP in the van. Luckily the micromax and it's covering was right at the back of the van.

I have back up equipment but leave it at home :D

suppose thats logical if your alex and your venue is down the end of the street :) otherwise a bit pointless.

I back up most stuff except lighting. even have a little sanitry and medical kit as well as spare food, pair of pants the lot.
