I'd of told them to bugger off.

See this is what annoyed me about my gig last night. I mention it time and time again about providing not a disco (product) but a service i.e the knowledge of what works when, how to set the mood early on and about taking their musical choices and working with that also. Then months after signing the contract and coming up to their event they sit at the kitchen table thinking of songs that wouldn't in the mother of all sundays work to get people dancing.

I'd of told them to bugger off.

There's a couple of cesuras in there, but I could live with playing that one, no probs. No probs at all.

I'd have asked if I could demonstrate how I'd deliver that playlist - probably about two minutes of each track then segue/cross fade/ mix.

If the client was happy with what I could do I'd hope they'd allow me to switch tracks around as I consider appropriate.

It does look like quite a good list provided everyone is up for the same kind of stuff BUT at the end of the day the DJ should have the confidence of the client to deliver a great party.

Good luck Daryll - I know you can do a great job, I hope your client appreciates you. Cheers, mate.

In that order with no requests from the guests?

I think it's quite rigid and I'd be bored.

Virtual DJ on Automix... then hope the venue has free Wifi (joke!).

Lots of good stuff.

I would be finding out the reason for the strict order, and mentioning you're happy to stick to that, but would recommend you're able to use your judgement.
Perhaps they've had bad experience where the DJ played inappropriate music all night?

PMSL , that would be me :D :D , I have done 4 other gigs for the family , all are the same , 80+ songs in that order , still ."he who pays the piper calls the tune".

I had to buy the CD of Clock with megamix on , could not find it on itunes , amazon , 7 digital etc.

I was ready to comment with reference to some of the replies about working with it and moving them about so that they work......

BUT..................

Then I saw that they are wanting them played in that order!!

What can you say? They obviously think that they know better than the DJ so what's the point of even booking one?

Sorry, I can't work that one out.

would be tempted to que it all into winamp or similar press play and sit by the bar the rest of the night but that's unprofessional......

"Ours is not to reason why, ours is simply to press play on Media Monkey/VDJ/Windows Media, and trouser a significant amount of wonga for very little creative thought". Works for me. ;) ;) :D :D

Snap - Might as well set a playlist up on an ipod - why bother with a professional DJ

Isn't it obvious? For the apposite bon mots, the sparkling repartee, and timely wisecracks. And Simon, how many Ipods can announce that the buffet's ready, or the bar's closed?

They can just get Aunt Edna to shout it out when the sausage rolls have been warmed up!
