Hi Guys
I am looking to purchase a fairly inexpensive mic cable and was wondering what company you would use.
The reason I don't want to pay too much, is that I am having what I think may be problem with my Shure SM58 and just want to confirm that it is not the cable causing the problem.
I have looked at the company Thomann, but as far as I can see, they would charge £10.00 delivery on items under £100.
I could also do with it delivered in the next few days.

Thanks in advance.

Pop into John Douglas in Dumfries - He is by no means the cheapest, but you will get the cable there and then. A wee 1m lead will be less than a fiver I would of thought...

Saying that, I would suggest buying a decent quality 5ish metre and if it is your mic that's faulty and not your cable, then you have a good quality spare... You can never have too many spares!!!

Probably stating the obvious, but I would have thought it prudent to carry a spare mic cable?

I agree with Darren, a mic cable is one spare that you should carry as its so easy to have it pulled and damaged.

Furthermore...you mentioned an SM58, now that's a fairly decent mic and does deserve a slightly better than average lead, the ones for round the £5 mark are ok for a spare but surely you should be buying a good cable and then it'll be fine with your existing mic or with a new one if you end up having to replace it. The SM58 is a decent mid quality all rounder and to get the best from it I reckon you should spend about £25 on the lead...something like planet Waves or Horizon, personally I am now using Horizon and they are from Absolute Music...trust em you'll tell the difference.

On the other hadn for Karaoke I use Shure C606 mics which are cheap and for those I use some coloured leads which do the job fine for that quality of mic, also good as you can tell at a glance who is feeding back and so on because they come in all colours and cost about a fiver from HTFR, think they are QTx or Sound Lab or something like that.

Thanks for your comments everyone. It is a bit of a long story. I do actually carry (would you believe) a total of 3 mics and cables!
When I was setting up for a wedding on Saturday, I had a slight problem with what seemed to be a loose connection on my main mic. I then tried various mic's and cables and still wasn't entirely happy. Now it may be down to a mic problem/mixer input or cable. What I want to do is work from the least expensive (the lead) to the most expensive (the mixer) and see how it goes from there.

I may even end up getting a Dennon MC6000 out of this :D

Just to let you all know how it turned out. On Sunday night, I ordered a cable from the company I showed the link for.
It arrived this morning. Very good service, and the cable looks reasonable quality.
It appears that the fault was on the cable, and not down to a mic or mixer problem.
Thanks again everyone.

Mike.
