speaker upgrade

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and only been Dj'ing 18 months I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my speakers i currently have 2 x 300 Watt active Skytech speakers.

I understand these are not at all good speakers but it was what i could afford when i first set up and we all have to start somewhere

I would now like to upgrade to some mid range active speakers and I am really not sure what to get.

I have had a quick look at the MACKIE SRM450 V2 (Secondhand) and also the MACKIE THUMP TH15 A 400.

I work to regular pub gigs where the music ranges from 60's to chart i basically try to cover all genres of music, I also do karaoke so i was looking for some advice from some experts here on the best speakers to get

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi John, I said for years that I would never have active speakers but my mate told me how good his RCF's are and I bought some. I have never heard any other actives aprt from SRM450's but read so many threads about active speakers.
IMO RCF's are a great active speakers but they are not cheap however you may find some within your budget. If you have found SRM450 V2's in your budget range I would suggest you go for them.

RCF's are undoubtedly superb. This is reflected in the price. The Warrior/W Audio range are good value for money. I have a 12" pair of the passive ones, and love them to bits. Here is the first one Google found me for their 15" actives.

Or a 2ND hand pair of JBL EON G2 speakers (15 inch version).
Very good IMO, very very good when thoroughly warmed up (as I recently discovered , and surprisingly terrifically good with a Mackie SWA1501 sub).

Go and listen to as many of the suggested ones as you can, preferably in the same place. You must listen before you buy.

yeah will go out and listen to some have heard very good things about the MACKIE SRM450 V2. Although going to have to delay on getting some as money a little tight at the moment :( !!!
