At the risk of getting the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' responses, what do people think of this as a rough idea for my site ? My current site I think is too 'busy' and doesn't give the information clients need fast enough. My current site is here

TBH i find it abit plain and boring :sofa:

Theres alot of space which you could use to spread your text out abit more
think it could maybe flow some more as atm its just 4 lumps of text and a picture

I don't like either!

Just the whole design.

That's just the homepage, the other pages will be simular but have more info. Just thought it would give the info clients need quickly. Going to add contact details on the homepage as well.

It's an improvement, but I don't like either. Looks very amateur.

Thought would add contact details on it as well so clients get the info they need quicker. Going to do the othe pages in a simular style but with more photos as well as the gallery. Or should I stick with what I've got ? (oh and thanks for not mentioning the monkey suit !)

Sorry but i feel this statement is quite rude towards your guests

"Refreshments:
Don't forget myself and my assistant can work very long hours. Please bear us in mind with regard to the provision of adequate food and soft drinks."

Actually I thought I'd edited that out when I updated the site about 3 months ago ! I got a draft of t&c's from an American DJ I know, but forgot about that bit. But in my defense it's been there since I started 5 years ago & nobody has ever mentioned it - client or DJ !

It'll be edited tonight !

I agree, if you want a drink while you're working, take a bottle of water. If the guests offer you refreshments thats nice, don't expect it.

Edited it, still looking for a easy but effective template idea though. I'm most probably selling up after New year so don't really want to pay for a design.

Any reason why you're selling up?

If you use that word on your site, you may want to bear this in mind:

:agree:

But there's ways of asking :p

From my old Ts & Cs - never had a query

"
• If your event requires the DJ to play for more than 4 hours without a break, we respectfully request that soft drinks and light refreshments are provided;
"

It's not down to the client to make sure you have refreshments. Most client will, as it's the done thing. You should never expect it, that's just rude.

In the clients eyes they're paying you enough, you should be able to take care of your own hunger/thirst requirements!

Bands always get fed and watered.

Toastmasters always get fed and watered.

Photographers always get fed and watered.

If it's in your contract or terms, what is so rude about it?

Sorry, but why is it rude? Do you have the same problem asking to be paid???? If they want me, they pay me, feed me and provide me with drinks, its all there in the contract, no-one ever baulks at it. All around me every weekend, I see photographers, videographers, bands etc all getting fed and watered, why should I be the poor relation! This is still the major problem with DJs - they just don't value themselves. Act like a second class citizen, and people will only be too happy to oblige and treat you that way!

Fair enough.

I'd rather just take my own refreshments than put it in my contract. Why not just up your prices by a fiver and buy a sandwich, bottle of drink and a snack? That way the client doesn't have to worry about "oh has the DJ been fed" we are there to make the evening run smoothly, not to give the client more things to worry about.

IMO expecting people to give you food and drink, or anything for that matter is rude, but that's just the way I've been brought up I guess.

Sorry i started the "Rude" comment but i feel the same i'm there to entertain not expect food/drink etc.

I know that bands etc get fed/watered but i just feel weird asking or saying yes when the client ask's

When they do ask i say no but thankyou, i always tend to take a drink with me and try and eat before i go.

If you put it in your T&C's then it could cost the client an extra £5+ just so you have food.

End of the day if the client is paying for 50+ guests they are paying for them and the guests aren't being payed so why should we ask/include food and drink when we are there AND being payed for a service.

Do you go to a normal day time job and expect the company to buy you lunch ?

Edit: Anyway think i've made this go off topic to much :(

Could we have a thread on this ?

I'm doing a wedding on Friday and when I went to meet them I asked how many people they expected, they said orginally 40 but after confirming it's only going to be about 30, (so expect 20 !) They said 'you are welcome to join us for the food, and drinks of course !'

Now this has been a big debate 'somewhere else' and as I'm staying the night and wouldn't be driving anyway I will have a drink to toast the B&G, but then go onto red bull or coke.

Oh I use a spellchecker for the site Corabar, I was typing quickly ! :o

A couple of things i noticed.....

I'd drop the James Bond 007 logo from your original site, you might have hollywood bigwigs on your back

The images on the 'packages' page have been stretched so look out of proportion

DJ Paulie
25-05-2011, 01:29 PM
I used to have 'copyright owned by blah blah' on the old site james, and I know what you mean. But as I have said I'm selling up in feb so not really going to worry too much about it, if they haven't bothered me in 5 years i'm sure they can't really be worried about it.

Someone made the log for me when I first came up with the name, I had just bought a 00DJ and casino royale had just come out, so I thought would jump on the advertising !

not too sure about your payment options

"cheque or cash at the beginning of the event"

I dont think I would accept a cheque on the night

DJ Paulie
25-05-2011, 05:34 PM
That's because corporate gigs usually pay by cheque. If it's not for that sort of gig I usually ask before the event how they like to pay. 99% pay cash, but I ask if they want to pay by cheque if they can pay 2 weeks before, & I only accept a cheque if they've paid a deposit.

Some people leave it til the last minute to book, so on very rare occasions I'll accept full payment (in cash) on the night. Like a lady who booked me last year for a fundraiser & now wants me to do her sisters 21st, I asked for a deposit but she told me yesterday her coccyx was very sore as she injured it few weeks ago plus she'd had a death in the family (funeral today)

As the gig is in 10 days, if she sent a postal order today it'd take 2 days to arrive (post slower here & nothing moves on weekends) so I said she could pay me on the night. I know she's good for it & I've taken some pressure off her & done some good PR !

But in 5 years I've not been stung, lucky I guess ! (watch me get stung now !)

OK another (mad?) idea, as I am selling up after new year, thought woudl throw caution to the wind and try soemthing wacky ! As I said before the reason I called my company Disco Royale was because Casino Royale had just come out and as I had a 00DJ thought would tie in with it. But forgot this was ireland and the Bond referance didn't really work !

Sooooooo...... have come up with a plan ! Playing on Pulp Fiction idea I'm going to market myself as a cheesy disco ! Came up with this logo quickly !

I'm sure they would be happy to have you for the copyright and even more so as your not going to carry on.

BUT if your ending soon then why make a logo (if thats it) for a few months saying your a cheesy disco as i'm not being funny but that surely isn't helping the other companys out there ..................

Going to bowout from this as i feel its a wrong way of doing things and feel that just because your ending soon the "I'm not bothered what happens etc" attitude is happening....

Not sure what any of this has to do with a webdesign?

I require feeding on an all day without doubt but generally just bring a sandwich etc. for general gigs, even though the client usually asks if I want any.

There is already a Your DJ :p

I think both look really bad. Sorry. I would get a decent Joomla template done by someone who knows a bit about it.
Its not difficult and you can get them sorted for the costs of a few pints.
If you are "selling up" it will be parts of a going concern. :)

You cannot be good at everything and in business you need to delegate some jobs to other people.
