Uplighting

Looking at various photos of uplighting on website and facebook etc I'm beginning to get a bit bored with it! Does uplighting enhance a venue, or just make all of them look the bleeding same?

I suppose it depends on what color and what they are actually uplighting as some on plain walls do look the same mainly when its all pink, pink, pink lol

I think a nice statue or alcove etc makes the uplighting more attractive when using the right color and placement.

Yeah I agree Dave,nice highlighted features are fine, but whole rooms in pink or purple just look garish to me!

I think what you are forgetting Pete is that a lot of rooms are very plain and any amount of uplighting completely transforms the look of it.

I still think that Uplighting makes a massive difference to a venue and we have been doing it week in week out now for the last 4 years or so.

It can totally transform a venue and brides absolutely love it!

Although it does make me laugh that when we started uplighting I promised myself that I would only need 10 units ever and that would do me and now we have 83 :)

I'm going to grab 4 uplighters in the next month or so, but primarily I am going to use them behind me to add width to the show if needed. They are the TRI Led ones that are super bright like the Power Bar.

I am getting the remote and will experiment with DMX, because I really think that uplighting can be used as part of the show e.g. Colour Flow patterns, Chasing and Strobing.

Uplighting has had a recent boom for me and long may it continue. Still meeting people brides and venue managers who have yet to encounter it. DJ's will get bored of it long before clients do.

I'm not saying that all uplighting is wrong, it can be used to a marvelous effect, but it can also be totally out of place in some venues that are already beautiful.

I've actually discouraged some brides this year from having it, not because I dont need the money, but because uplihting will look out of place in an already gorgeous venue.

The purpose of Uplighting is to enhance the look of the venue or certain elements of it (Fireplaces, Columns etc...). As Darren says, a number of venues have a neutral look to them and Uplighting improves the look.

Lots of Brides love it and it can actually look really good and make an ordinary venue look quite classy.

At one of my residencies, I always try to sell the Uplighting as it really DOES improve the look of the venue. I do quite a lot at this particular venue and one couple actually said to me that when they showed friends the photos afterwards, they couldn't believe it was the same venue. A couple of their friends had got married at the same venue a couple of years ago and I provided the Disco but they couldn't extend their budget to pay for Uplighting. Apparently, when they saw the photos (they couldn't attend the wedding), they said they'd wished that they'd spent the extra to have it.....That's what I was told.
