Let's see if we can have the other side of the coin, eh? As the title says.

The Kinks. Originators of punk. Listen to All day and all of the night. Yeah I know they wore smart suits, but let's not split hairs, eh?

Dolly Parton. . Ignoring the jokes, she's a talented and prolific songwriter, and has a fine voice also. ( Anyone who says " A fine pair of lungs as well" is heading for the Sin Bin ;) :Naughty: )

Carl Perkins. The forgotten Rock and Roller.

Roy Wood, Roy Wood & Roy Wood.

Most will remember him only for that christmas song, ignoring the rest of his output (including the fact he wrote the first song played on radio 1) Abba even ripped him off when they wrote Waterloo (Listen to See my baby jive & Waterloo back to back)

Good call, Steve. You've got to admire a man who can get a set of bagpipes into a Reggae number. :D

Small Faces - vastly underrated and very influential - Steve Marriott was one of the greatest white soul singers ever.

Ian Dury, Skatellites, and perhaps nowadays Stevie Wonder - surely genius does apply to him

Stevie Wonder is a genius. What makes you think he's underrated?

What makes you think he's underrated
Probably because artists like him don't get the headlines and chart success - i thought "What the fuss" was a great song - 4 weeks in the chart and got to number 19.

The first half of his career was. Not personally fond of anything after the happy birthday type era.

Most underrated bands are ones you'll probably never hear of in the mainstream

There's loads of bands like Specials, Clash etc. that maybe should get more.....how can i put it.......commercial recognition? but anyone who knows anything about music, knows that in their field, they're not

I'd have to agree with George Benson - many people think he started with the smooth 'Give Me The Night' and don't know about his earlier 'proper' jazz work where he played with people like Miles Davis.

Yep you are right. Relatively little success in the uk though.

Blue Nile
Depeche Mode
Late Night Alumni

Thinking about it, if I can only choose 3 I'd swap one of the above for 'Lemon Jelly', but I'm not sure which one

I've got 2 of his early albums with Nature Boy and This Masquerade on. Very jazzy and he seems to have gone back that way now. Originally known as George "Bad" Benson, first hit was Supership.

Coincidence with an earlier post, Benson appeared on Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the key of life" album.
