What kind of budget?

Even the cheapest are at least £200 or more, new anyway.

You might be looking for a while then - unless you get a bargain on Ebay.

i will be but the amount of discos i get and the price i charge i don't know how i can keep myself in business

Probably better if you bought second hand, although i'd say you wouldn't get a pair of them for less than £200.

I think a pair of new moving heads at the "bottom end" of the scale still retail between £400-£500.

So you'd better get saving mate :teeth:

new, you're looking at £250 each, basically. second hand, probably not loads less... and you'll most likely end up buying 2 or more.

You can keep yourself in business by not buying moving heads! Build gradually and slowly and invest money back in when you earn it and can afford to.

You should see the gear I had when I started!

If he is anything like me at that age, the money from all gigs and pretty much all money I could get my hands on (pocket money, birthday money etc) goes on equipment. Likewise never had a present that wasnt technical (other than socks anyway)

No no no, that picture was after 3 or 4 years (and there was nothing wrong with that gear - I had Technics 1210s by then)

I'm on about what I started with....

if you can find them, look for lytequests motorhead moving heads. they are an older style than the ones now, but they still are great for mobiles, they dont have the rotating gobos and kaelidoscope (excuse the spelling!) effects the new ones have but these can be had for about £250 for 4 of them, they take a elc 24v/250 lamp and are really quick moving, plus you can master slave link them etc, what i do is mount 4 on a truss and have set the dmx programs to run on that angle, and for the money you cant go wrong, spares/repairs ones can be picked up for buttons too incase anything goes on them and i think (not too sure) gemini can source new bits for them if needbe.
the most important thing i have learnt is make sure you flightcase these up as they are delicate and a knock or two in the back of the van could prove fatal!!!!

To be honest Callum i would go down the NJD rout and buy a chaos 2 or a blistzer on ebay there really cheap and for they money they throw out a good effect
