Having run a succesful pub quiz for quite some time now the pub chain wanted to start a quiz night at another pub and they asked if I would do it.
My succesful quiz night is on a Thursday, the night they wanted in the other pub was a Sunday (can anyone see where this is going yet), the other pub is on an Industrial/Retail estate (can anyone see where this is going yet), the reason they wanted to do it on a Sunday night is because the pub is usually totally dead (can anyone see where this is going yet).
So, after zero advertising by the brewery I turn up to the pub on Sunday and set-up to do the quiz. Apart from myself and bar staff there were 2 customers (a middle aged couple). At the appointed hour I went round with the quiz sheets and asked the couple if they would like to join in, they replied No. I told them it was free to enter and the prize for winning was £20 in vouchers they could use behind the bar, they replied No. I joked that as they were the only ones in the pub they were bound to win it and the £20 in vouchers would be theirs, again they declined.
So, there I am in a pub presenting a quiz to nobody (well nobody that was interested), then to my amazement the man gets up and goes to the bar and buys a fresh round of drinks for him and his partner. So, in a valiant effort to give the vouchers away I thrown in a 'spot prize question' and ask a question that is so blatantly easy. Does he come over to answer it and get the vouchers? NO
I give up sometimes!
