do you have to have a smoke machine when dj and what purpus dose it serve for djing also what smoke machines set of smoke alarms what are in buildings what are conected to the fire station .and whats the diffrance between a haze machine and the smoke in a can

No you don't , it helps to show off your lighting effects more effectively , some / all smoke machines set off some / all smoke alarms.
A haze machine is a machine , smoke in a can is..........smoke in a can.
