Don't bother with the Maplin DMX controller. You'll be there for years.
There is a thread on DMX on this forum.
I bought the "Stairville DMX-Master I" as a result.
It is the same as the "Chauvet DMX55" so you can watch loads of videos on how to use it on Youtube. Very easy.

Don't bother with that one, you have to make your shows, then run them from the laptop connected, no memory with it, so if the power goes or it turns off you've lost your show. Go for Freestyler & buy a USB to DMX dongle from eBay I got one for £20 last year from a polish guy !

I have used a Stairville DMX Masterfor a couple of years to control my Mood Lights and it takes a sound signal so they change STL. There are so many makes with the same design/layout as they are made in the same factory that there are always one or two secondhand for around £50 somewhere.
Instructions are not hard to follow if you take it slowly and dont miss anything out, even if you don't understand DMX.
I have another of these 192 contollers for my moving heads. Different make/name but same in every other way.

Stay away from Maplin for equipment if I were you - negative equity.
as per the product you have already got. It will be a load of rubbish and will not control much very well.

Go software or the likes of stairville as mentioned

Ebay is your best friend.

I would personally go the laptop route as its much easier and more adaptive to new lighting fixtures.
There are a million threads on this.

Try DasLight.

I run 6 Martin Mac 250's and even lasers from it now. Never had any problems with it. I like using it as you can make your shows while all your lights are not hooked up as it has a "Virtual 3D stage" so you can make up different set ups.

Hooks up via laptop and uses little CPU - NEVER EVER let me down
