Gimp software

Anyone got an opinion of the free Gimp software (open source photoshop substitute) is it any good?

Great program , not a photoshop killer , but close , works much better under native Linux than the windoze ported version , another good freebie is paint.net

http://www.getpaint.net/ , more user friendly than the Gimp , and TBH , unless your a pro photographer , this will do all you`ll ever need.

Actually, the more I use GIMP, the more I of the tools I am using. I find myself spending a little bit of time reading / learning a bit more every time I try and do something..... far more than any other imaging program I've ever used (although there's still plenty I haven't used.....YET!)

I guess it depends on each person as to what suits you, but this one is perfect for me. I find it fairly intuitive (after the initial learning curve), and the results are great.

As for its stability, it has crashed a couple of times on XP, but (touch wood) it hasn't on 7, but even on XP, I wouldn't say there was any great problem. (The XP machine I was using it on was only a netbook without a great deal of power and I was asking an awful lot of a little machine. The Windows 7 machine has a lot more oomph, so that's most likely the reason - as opposed to the operating system itself)
