I have a wired Numark mic model WM200 and it's done me well for 5 years, (watch it'll pack up now !) I bought some foam windshields partly to stop punters gobbing into it and partly so I don't get it all wet using all night. (I'm one of these DJ's who use the mic, especially as most of my gigs are birthdays)

But the thing I notice is I set the gain and volume at the start of the night and halfway through have to turn the gain up so it's in the red. now it only goes there when I use it, so not for long periods. Is this ok, is there a way of stopping it, should I use it without the windshield ?

I don't really want to buy a new mic as I will be selling up after new year, but if I have to would the cheapest radio mic from maplin do ? I saw it today for €70EURO, so that wouldn't break the bank, or is there another mic around the same price or cheaper you would suggest ?

You use the mic a lot and spend less than £20 on something so important?

Words really do fail me sometimes.

I have the choice of SM58s and wireless EW100 Senheissers, but still use one of these for DJing..

It was a lot more when I bought it, I didn't know what the usual price for mics was over here, but knew Numark were well known, so went to about the only place that sold DJ gear in the city as I didn't know how to get to the other ones. (I think there's about 3 or 4 anyway) I think it cost me about €55EUROS which is about £50

Get yourself a limiter or a compressor, then you can set the level to how you want it, and it will never go past that level

I keep mine for me if they want to say something I'll use one of the radio mics I have a kam twin one, but one of the ariels broke & I replaced it but the range isn't so good now. I think I'll stick with what I've got seeing as it's only for another 6 months.

Thanks for the advice people.
