Looking forward to this one, a JJB store launch coming soon and I want to be prepared for which way I might go with this one. I'm thinking it could go very hip hop and its not a genre I keep tabs on so to speak.
Question is if you were doing a similar event yourself, what tracks would you play from hip hop or a similar genre. Naturally nothing with swearing in it please :)

What makes you think it could 'go very hip hop'?

I would try and cater for all ... maybe even throw in some sporting based themes... TV or songs relating to sport etc
Thank you

Have you spoken to the Store/Area Manager? There may have a list of approved songs for their stores they want you to use, or a current promotion you could theme your music to - or they might want you to avoid certain sorts of tunes (public perception etc.)
Chances are they will say play whatever you want but it's worth checking.

I do recall previously with JJB Sports store gigs them stating that they want a young DJ and urban music for their events, but whether that's all over the country I do not know.

I have never done an in-store promotion gig but I would keep it very charty and throw in some hip hop as this is the kind of music they play when in these shops.

On iPhone but Angela has it right. I want to be prepared for it to go that way so I'm surprised nobody has listed any tracks......

I think with all of these things, you need to play a wide range of stuff, usually current stuff (Now albums etc).

Wouldn't it be the urban type stuff you play in the winebars? :D
Mix up the old skool and and new stuff and as you have already said you might need to watch out for/do a few crafty edits on the swearing.
I don't have my lappy with me but I did an old skool rnb hiphop thread a month or so back so have a look for that plus the modern stuff, rhianna, taio, chris brown, jayz, you know the drill.

The JJB near me always seems to be full of what appear to be unemployed layabouts.
If you JJB store attracts the same level of the community you could do worse than play some UB40 .

Chaps.... have none of you read the original question Neil asked?

I think this is the first time on this forum that when someone has asked for genre help that no suggestions have been made! :( :(

I was thinking that? I would have thought the main thing is a laptop lock, baseball bat and some dubstep and drum and bass blad :p
what kind of hiphop?
classic hiphop (sugarhill gang), classic gangster rap (2pac,biggy), laid back (j5, pharside), cool hiphop/soul - cue tip, guru jazzmataz stuff, early 2000 stuff like JZ etc or modern hiphop (black and yellow type stuff).
I would have thought more easy listening commercial stuff like adelle would be a better option, but i know nothing of the event so only guessing.

Neil, I've done loads of store events all over Yorkshire and the North East, and as a mature, experienced and seasoned campaigner would be pleased to pass on all the relevant and useful info I have.
However:

I have done JJB and they do have a music policy, I had a sheet from them stating their target market and the style of music they wanted playing in the store and I assume that's global. I am sorry but I can't find it so I mustn't have saved it or saved it under a daft name.
Basically I would go for mostly up to date stuff and of course clean versions, I use CD Pool and they are pretty good at stating if its explicit.
I wouldn't go too hip hop or too obscure...fair enough you do get some of that type in there but you do also get lots of other folk in there too. I would use stuff like Rhiana, Katy Perry, Snoop dog, Black Eyed Peas, Pit bull, LMFAO, Saturdays, Swedish House Mathia, Usher. Personally I would keep it up-tempo, just go with the flow, I have been a bit jubious about what to play in the past but it soon becomes apparent. If you have time prior to the day taek a walk into JJB and Streetwise and see what they are playing.

I think you all need to read the op again and see what I'm actually asking for. Toby is the only one thus far to give me anything useful.
