Had a call this afternoon from a potential client who found my details on this site! It had to be this site as i haven't advertised or registered myself with any other sites yet!

It's an Engagment Party next month for 100 - 150 people - Fan-Bl**dy-Tastic!!

The theme is 'Ice White' apparantly and she wanted to know how i could fit into the theme ...... DMX Lighting i said, not a problem..... see my other thread to help me here...!!! :embarasse

So, thanks MDD, and all who sail in her - it just goes to show, that punters do look around on the internet, and do take notice of sites like MDD to get guidance!

Just spoken to the GM at the Hotel, asking the usual questions about smoke machines, PLI, Sound Limiters etc

The way that their sound limiter works is that you plug into the soundlimiter box direct from your amp, and it then plays through their speakers. If the volume is too much it just dampens the volume until you reduce the volume then it comes back up.

Is this common - for a venue to use it's own speakers? Surely if their speakers are more for conference type events, then the sound will be, well, errm, not very good :teeth:

Never come across this before - sounds most odd.

Not something I would want to do at all, after all, the client is booking you and your show, not the house PA.

I would have a chat before agreeing to this!

I've had to do this before..

But i was only booked as a DJ for a hotel, not as a mobile disco.

I just turned up with my music and used the inhouse gear.

Wow have yet to meet this system sounds very scary would personnally refuse to use it as you are being paid to use you gear by the hirer. most places are regulated by a sound monitor not a sound reducer

the sound limiters i find installed up here are mearly warning lights they will not cut power or reduce sound but if the staff see it hitting the reds they will ask you to turn it down....not that they need to ask me as i prefer people to be able to talk without shouting and make sure that really its only the dance floor that gets the loud music

Glad to hear that the MDD has worked for you. Good luck with the gig, although I've never heard of this kind of Sound Limiter.

With some of the older affiliated and social clubs still having the old system which cuts the 2/3 plugs on the stage. usually blowing your amps and sometimes the lights.
Solution!!!!!! run a long extension from the kitchen or bar.
Sound limiters.....bah humbug!!!!!

Makes no difference to them what you are--Band or Disco

Whilst I hate these like you--there is an unfortunate unitended consequence of all this--

If you bypass them and the council get loads more complaints---they will shut the place down effectively by removing the music licence.

They are not that stupid!

Then there will be less halls to hire, less bookings for all of us to do etc.

I would think most working mens clubs and places like that who rely on their music licence would stop you doing this.

Self preservation and all that!
