I'm currently going through my motown and 80s for tomorrow night's 40th birthday which got me thinking, what 80s and motown seem to be a hit for the evening when your out gigging?

Cheers.

Almost anything in the Motown bracket , I particularly have fond memories for Steve Walsh's talky version of I Found Lovin'.
I'm so glad I grew up with 80's music , my chart favourites however are of a particular taste.
Adam & the Ants , Pet Shop Boys , Queen , U2 , Phil Collins , I could go on and on.
If you need particular advice give this post a bump as I'm sure there's lots of advice to be had from others on here.

Oh , do you live anywhere near Scrapsgate Road ?

I have to say, if I was doing an 80's night, from that list I would play ................................Not one of them, not a single solitary one!

FAO Digital Jack, can I ask when do you play them?

Here we go again , another exercise in slating someone for their opinion..

Do you lot have a rigid play list that you stick to ?

I wont go into the reasons I play certain tracks as that will not meet with the approval of some of you anyway.

Most of those track are from a compilation that are available on an import , which is nice as it keeps a large chunk of music in one place .It comes in handy if you run from CD.

Not copied and pasted at all , well yes , but from a folder (on my desktop) that I'm currently working on.
What ones have you not heard then , do you need your ears syringed
I never said they were all classics did I , some are really good but have been forgotten about due to more popular stuff that stands out more effectively.

Obviously your knowledge of the 80's differs from mine , we can't all be the same as each other , no ??? yes ??? maybe ???

From here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_Omigod!_The_80s_Pop_Culture_Box_(Totally)

I never even considered wikipedia when the original request for advice came up.

The list I have is for a collection I own , this is the same collection Amazon.com: Like, Omigod! The '80s Pop Culture Box (Totally): Various Artists: Music (http://www.amazon.com/Like-Omigod-80s-Culture-Totally/dp/B000068ZVP) .

Some of the tracks on this are naff , most of them are good though.
If you want to listen to certain songs in a van then do it , do you not think the stuff you listen to privately can not be played in a party atmosphere ?

Some folk have no imagination at all.

In the van I would guess!

So what do you play on an 80's night when the time isn't right for Stock, Aitken & Waterman ?
I didn't say 'this is my playlist' , I was responding to a request for information which is more than anyone else on here has bothered to do.

I am not slating. That list is obviously copied and pasted and is useless as a lot of the songs on there are unknown and unplayable.

Some folk have no imagination at all.

Especially people who just copy and paste random tracks without any real thought.

There are thousands of tracks that are fairly well known and not played very often.

What ones have you not heard then , do you need your ears syringed

Ooh, carry on being rude my friend.

To be honest, I know most of them but going over the whole list, I'd probably play about 60% of them.

Jack - did you read the OP?

Are you honestly saying that is a hit playlist from a recent 80's gig you've done?

To be honest it's so far off the mark to be 'off topic' and only going to confuse someone asking for 80's hits suitable for a regular party.

By all means open your own thread about 80's tunes with that list - I'm sure the various 80's experts on here would be more than happy to contribute with their own obscure and less well known but good tunes - but it really has no place on this thread,

I thought maybe my knowledge was lacking so I checked the Guinness Hit singles and only two of those songs charted. one in 1983 at number 47 and one at number 42 in 1984. ;)

Surely the one in 83 was this floor filler?

I watched that all the way through, all 4 minutes 20 seconds of it, just to see where it could possibly go after the first 2 minutes! Amazing!
