What do you do\where do you go to get changed after setting up.?

I normally ask at the hotel for a room to change in but get told the gents toilets are over there, you can use them. Some hotels are kind enough to give you the keys to a vacant room to change in,but not very often.

I get changed in the van. I have lighting in there when it's dark in the winter months and I always keep a can of deodorant in there anyway but if I have a change of clothes, I take them and change.

Dont do a lot of Hotels and mine varies from the odd offer of a specific room ( very rarely) to mainly Gents Toilets a lot of the time--also behind my Western Backdrop Flag 12 by 8 feet and undressing there:daft: :daft: :daft:

Friday night I emerged too early after the gig from behind the backdrop in my underpants to put on my shorts to find the organising Cowgirl had returned without warning---

eek theres a man in underpants she shouted--no problem I said im not charging for it :daft: :daft: :daft:

Generally we get pretty badly treated.:( although my venues are say a little bit more "rustic" I would think.

Waits for Darren with stories of private Room with en suite shower;)

Good post, changing facilities for entertainers is a subject that it is often overlooked.

I make do with the bogs, disabled at best.

Although I have done gigs at 5 star hotels where you are granted access to the entire facilities should you wish. Early set up, spa it up!!!

God must get a bit chilly.

Toilets for me. The venues I do are normally pretty good so they are usually clean with no water on the floor and unflushed turds etc. :D

As a scruffy git - I generally gig in what I go in or for black tie normally ware the trousers and have a jumper over the white shirt. I got oil all over my armani suit the other day so am defintiely changing in future if wearing that if it comes out which I very much doubt. :)

Got to laugh at this post.

The hotel i was at last night I asked for a room to change in and they directed me to the disabled toilet, As I was changing I thought to myself "I gotta ask the guys on mdd where they get changed"

disabled toilet

They are the best - bags of room and warm. I do a venue called Rhinefield and there is one right next to the room you DJ in - its perfect. i think you have been there actually  Might be someone else?

Bogs get my tick :D :D

If easyish setup I setup in the same trousers I wear at night so often it just requires a spray of deodorant and change of shirt outside.

Depending on the friendlyness of venue staff, either a spare conference room or the toilets. One venue I used to do regularly usually gave me a guest room if they had one spare, but it's never happened anywhere else. Not sure why you'd ever had to change in the van, surely even the toilets are more comfortable?

I don't change.

I'll setup in my tux and take some aftershave.

I used to just set up in a shirt and trousers and DJ like that all night.

Only used to get changed on the big jobs, not just for a disco.

jeans and t shirt to set up a good spray of lynx and old spice and then change in to shirt and trousers hopefully without getting wet feet in the toilet.

All my regular venues have changing and showering facilities, so I shower and change. If it is a venue I haven't been to before, I either email or ring and ask if there are facilities I can use.

Some places are friendlier than others and may give you a room or showering facilities and others not. I sometimes get changed in the van though.

Wish I had the time between setting up and starting to have a shower :(

So from the moment you set up, you are on the mic and working? Surely people have a little background music?

That's a good idea, and to be honest not something I'd even thought of asking. I think I'll give it a go.

No, but I like to be there during background music on an evening - especially if kids present - just my personal preference.

Usually Disabled toilets for me or if a regular venue the staff room.

Some venues will give me a meeting room to wait / change in, very rarely a spare bedroom.

Saturday got changed into & out of my tux in the car park(marquee gig).

I normally use the disabled toilets.

Had my own personal changing room for the FIRST TIME EVER last night. Own toilet, washing facilities, mirror, table, chair, clothes hooks and access to the stage.... What a dream.

Thank you The Edinburgh Masonic Club.

A lot of the venues I do are WMCs which have "artiste" rooms. These normally consist of a sink, mirror, chair and space to get changed. Some of the "higher class" hotels and it's just the toilets. Makes you think, eh?
