What non-dj items do you take with you to gigs

Following on from the 'Changing Facilities' thread. I just wondered what 'spares (if any) everyone else takes.

After a unfortunate accident at a gig where I split my trousers from front to back, I now always carry a spare pair of trousers with me. Not sure quite how it transpired but that carried onto a spare shirt, spare shoes, spare socks, spare tie and even spare boxer shorts :lol:. Basically a complete change of clothes. I also carry a bag with a towel, soap, wet wipes, tissues, needle and thread (:confused: not sure why I would need that with a spare set of clothes), chewing gum, spare sat nav, deodorant and after shave. All that's in addition to the regular spares and repair stuff we all carry.


Anyone else as paranoid as me.....or have you not split your troosers at a gig yet? :d :d

I keep aftershave and deoderant in my gig bag at all times...

LMAO!!! You may laugh but that's exactly what I did while I waited on a spare pair of trousers being dropped off by the wife. A quick trip to the lav and tapeed on the inside. Thank god the gig was local! Nad thankk god for the marvel that is Gaffa tape. :d :d :d

Split trousers---no despite the Line Dancing;)

Elastoplast in case of minor accidents--good road map in case Sat Nav goes or major diversion where I can usually spot the best route myself--powerful torch/floodlight to use in dark remote locations when loading up and some :Censored: turns out the outside lights or they go off because of a :Censored: timer.

Use one that that plugs into cigar lighter--quite handy for counting the cash with the client in the dark as well;)

I have a lot of hidden side pockets etc in my car which are all filled with er.........crap :D

Plasters, headache tablets, batteries, deodorant, socks etc etc amongst the items - if I needed anything I probably couldn't find it :D

I am on loadsa pills due to a Kidney transplant, and I get paranoid that i will lose the ones i have or breakdown on the way home or something, so I leave loads in the van...suffice to say I have never needed them thus far....

You might not believe some of the things that live in my van!! Suffice to say that I arrived at last night's gig with a triple extension ladder strapped to the roof!! :eek: :eek: :D :D :D :D :D :D

First aid kit, loads of ibruprofen/painkiller (bad back), deodorant, anti diarrhea pills, aftershave, mouthwash (a must for smell breath). pen and paper, sat nav x 3 (I am paranoid, but I work in the stix).

AA cover, hi viz jacket, emergency light & traffic cone. Came in useful when some idiot hit a horse the other day and killed it (they walk all over the place in the New Forest), door stop (thanks to paul party DJ).

I will take my tux/suit, spare clothes and underwear in a holdall in future as you never know.

I posted this on my blog a couple years back.

Keep a personal kit in your car/van. Included: toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, razor, shave foam, after shave, etc. In my "just in case" drawer, I carry all kinds of drugs (asprin, allergy sinus, eye drops etc) toothbrush, safety pins, bow tie, batteries, lighters, shoe shine, black duct tape, clear tape, multi tester, circut breaker tester, dB meter, band aids. In the main gig box I have spare light bulbs, misc. adapters, cables, glow sticks, and door wedges. Carry anti acid/indegestion liquid/tablets. I always keep rennie's or similar in my pocket. Sometimes I have been asked if I have any !

In my "just in case" drawer, I carry all kinds of drugs (asprin, allergy sinus, eye drops etc) toothbrush, Blu-Tak, safety pins, bow tie, batteries, lighters, shoe shine, black duct tape, sellotape, multi tester, circut breaker tester, dB meter, band aids. In the main gig box I have spare light bulbs, (ordinary household ones as well - you never know !) cables, glow sticks, and door wedges.

Always keep backup socks and undergarments (you never know what can happen!) Keep bin bags and towels in your vehicle in case it is raining. Give yourself 1/2 hour extra "flat tyre" time to get to an event. Keep a couple of clean towels and a jug of multi-purpose cleaner with your DJ stuff. You never know when you may get into a venue and find that your equipment needs a spruce up.

Buy a multi-tool (leatherman etc) Don't wear it.. Just keep it handy.. you never know and rack screws are a pain in the wotsit to get out with a butter knife from the head table.

Burn all the "particular" songs to a CD. Even if all hell is breaking loose.. You will still have the song for the bride to dance with her father etc. Buy a fold up sack trolley. Even if the piece is 10 lbs its worth wheeling it in as opposed to sweating through all your clothes. Even when you have spare clothes to change in to you will still get that sweaty look about you. If you are going to wear a tux or suit, have it on when the guests arrive.

As mentioned above bringing glowsticks is a great idea for keeping kids happy. I do it at most kids parties. Make sure the client is ok with the idea ahead of time. Just remember when you crack the first one open be sure you will have plenty of time to hand them out to the rest of the kids!!!

I also carry a small kitchen type fire extinguisher just in case something goes really wrong in the rig. Be aware of the halls extinguishers, fire pull boxes and fire exits. Have a plan in the back of your mind if a emergency were to happen.

Run 2 power cables to the dj console. If you blow one you can get back up much quicker. Also it's good practice to get into the habit or running lights from one feed and playout/sound from another, that way if the power goes in one you don't lose everything.

maybe im doing it wrong, but ive never taken spare clothes, shoes, underwear etc to gig. If i know ive got a long hard slog to setup i will take clothes to change into after ive setup, but never taken spare clothes.

neither have i taken and pain killers, toothpaste, aftershave etc.

i can see the point of taking spare cables, connectors, bulbs, duck tape and a few tools but unless im staying overnight i dont take anything else
