I got a chance to move to weston super mare from oxford due to a promotion at work which was unexpected, as I have been in the job only a few months. So chappies my question is-

What is weston like for the disco and karaoke scene? more for karaoke I guess, cus there does appere to be less good karaokes around, not that I think iam good and not being big headed, but iam :teeth:

Or theres the obvious question, is it worth walking away from a good client base on the disco side to persue a carear for later life, or am i told to old to start again as a dj in a different place.

Hi Mike, I think you have to weigh up the pros and cons of each scenario. Your full time employment may hold better long term benefits in the long term for you and your family (pension, job security, pay increase etc) than what you currently may have.

As for being too old to disco....NEVER :D.

As Shaun says - can't help too much with the decision, but certainly not too old to build a new client base!

Have you got an opportunity to go and visit WSM to see what it's like before making a decision? After all, it's not just work you have to consider - you and your family have to live there as well.

Yes been there a few times as its the head office for the company I work for, and its your normal kind off seaside town, candy floss, grannies and kiss me quick hats :teeth: :teeth:

Yeah sounds like a big step... But could be good... Just need to weigh up the pros and cons with your full time job and then if it's worth it long term go for it... There's always disco/karaoke work out there - and yes ok it may take time to rebuild BUT there are always people around to help...

I moved from London last year back to Worcestershire to be closer to my family so in effect i've had to start again with the disco/karaoke/race nights side of things... Topped with that for the past 3 years i've spent the summer months out of the UK so it's only really the end of september untill Feb im giging in the UK... That made it hard to build a reputation BUT i managed it and part of that was thanks to other DJ's and discos in the area who when busy would pass work my way... Which was great as while i was away i could then return the favour and pass on enquiries....

Now i'm back again and still get enquiries from word and mouth and it's meant im pretty well booked up all december and slowly filling the dates up for October and November....

So basically i think what i'm saying is if your full time job is worth moving for then go for it.... and with the help of people on here and other forums i'm sure you'll soon get lots of other disco/karaoke work....

Current clients in Oxford you could always still take the enquiries for and pass on to people on here... That way if things went wrong in your job you still have contacts back in oxford..

I think u should go for it, nothing ventured nothing gained, besides, i could get a cheap holiday...... life is too short, go with gut feeling, write a list of plus points and neg points. good luck

Not sure about Weston, but there's certainley plenty of decent work around Bristol, which is only 30mins away!

Not too sure if this is too late as I have just returned from my honeymoon and have seen your post.
I have lived in Weston now for about 3 years after relocating from London. I have to say that the area I live in is a place called Worle and is ok.
Weston’s not the best seaside town in the country but its is great in the summer apart from the tourist :omg: there’s nothing better than sipping a few cold beers after a hard week at work down on the sea front.


With regards to the disco side of things there is plenty of work to go around. As someone pointed out Bristol is only 30mins away which is where the majority of my work is although I go as far as Devon & Glous so there is a large area to choose from?

With regards to DJ'ing & Karaoke in Weston forget it, bars and clubs I have heard are only paying DJ's £50 - £75 a night and there are guys who are happy to accept this.
