Small Vans

I'm looking to purchase a small van within the next six months or so, so am starting research now.

Budget : Around £2,000
Requirements:
No more then 10 years old
Not White
Preferably black

Has anyone on here ever owned a small van? Anything they liked/disliked?

Any vans I should stay clear of?

Ive got a Berlingo, and cant fault it. Look for something that the buts are easily sourceable on...I know some of the Fiat vans are a right get when it comes to replacement parts :)

I would say your first example has been around the world,
second one is a bit pricey for what it is, the fiesta would be too small.
You really do need help, talk to someone you know who's older and knows about motors before you make an expensive mistake.

A berlingo is exactly what I was looking at. Also the renault kangoo vans

No just seen far too many of their vans been driven really badly, 50/60 on narrow country lanes etc...

If you go for a Ford try and get one newer than 2002 (ish) as they use to have a major rust issue but they thankfully sorted that out around this time.

If you go for a Ford try and get one newer than 2002 (ish) as they use to have a major rust issue but they thankfully sorted that out around this time.

Will upgrade to a larger van when I need to, at the mo I think smaller would be best.

Another vote for the Berlingo. Drive one reguarly for my day job. Although ours are both 10 plates, we bought the last of the old shape for £7000 each. They are 1.6 HDi and drive very well for a van and reasonably nippy too. Plenty of space in the back, had a 32U server rack in the back of one last week!

Berlingo or Partner (same van different engine).

I have had both and cannot fault them.

I got the Bosche fuel pump Renault as it runs on veg oil rather than the lucas Berlingo.
Bought my new one for £400 which was a very good deal at 100k.

Look for ex police van or something as they look after them.

I used to work for BT Fleet who carry out all the servicing and maintenance for British Transport Police.
If you have a gander at the BT Fleet website you will find a section that deals with ex-fleet sales , you will, in turn, find that you can purchase ex-BTP and ex BT vehicles via these channels.
All vehicles come with a full service history etc, etc.
The prices may not be bargain basement but they are in excellent working condition.I think you get a warranty too.It can't hurt to take a look , I know of a few ex BTP vehicles that have sold for very little money.

I got my first van off some dodgy bloke and it broke not long after I got it.
I only lost £150 on it though even when the clutch broke on the test drive - the bloke still bought it :lol: Muppet.

The one I have now was off a benefit cheat who needed the cash I recon.
Great van but its the risk you take as he was proper dodgy.

If I get another I know the engine and van in and out so will not be stung again.

Last year I bought one of these:

It is 03 reg and I paid £2,500 for it. It had 69,000 on the clock, but is still in good condition.

Since buying it, I have had a new clutch, had the waterpump & cambelt changed, had the drop links done, replaced the rubbers holding the exhaust on and had the gear cable replaced - apparently it is normal for them to go at around 70,000 miles.

All in all, it's a good car...even if it's not much of a woman wagon for a 20 year old lol. :D
