Right folks, in a months time, I can upgrade my phone. At present I have this. http://www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/all-phones/nokia-n86-8mp

I quite like the slide, and I love the camera quality ( though I struggle to remember how to use it. :o :daft: )

I'm on a £20-£25 a month contract, so what would you suggest replacing it with? Please bear in mind that paying to upgrade the handset is a definite no-no.     I am from Yorkshire, after all. ;) :D :D :D :D :D

I've had Nokias for ages, but wouldn't rule other brands out.

Main preferences are:
Fairly robust
Good call quality/signal capture
Long battery life
Really good camera ( this one actually beats my trusty Sony point and shoot on quality!!   )

Over to you, folks. Ta.

My son has just gone from Nokia to Samsung, and likes it a lot, I'll check that one out.

The logical successor to mine seems to be this

Edit: Dave, just seen your post, I'll check that also.

I've got a Samsung- not long battery life at all.
You will need to charge it every night without fail- sometimes mine doesnt last a day.

I`d say you have a duff battery, I charge mine twice a week, And that is making a lot of calls and using the internet regular

I have a HTC Desire HD and have the same problem. I think if I was looking at a new phone I would stay clear from fancy HD screens etc. They don't make that much difference but drain the battery quickly.

My initial searches on all this type of phone seemed to come up with one recurring comment: " Battery life's crap, I charge it every day". :( :(

I have a very unfashionable Nokia 6700 Classic, which seems to tick all your boxes apart from the camera maybe, Peter.

I travelled down to London with a couple of friends by coach recently, who are both Iphone 4 users. We set off with freshly charged batteries, and theirs were dead by Milton Keynes. Mine was at about 80% when we reached our hotel in London.

So I would suggest that one of Nokia's recent offerings is probably the way to go :)

Indeed. But my initial searches were conducted elsewhere. ;)

I think thats the case with smartphones- I used to have an HTC and it was similar.
The "always on" internet" seems to use a lot of power.

Rule out the blackberrys then Peter and the pictures I've seen taken with that are worse than the iphones.

I would say from your OP Nokia is your best bet.

Update: I'm astounded! The last time I upgraded my phone, it was pistols at dawn. :( After months of investigating options, and fruitless conversations, I ended up threatening to leave, and lo and behold they offered me a phone several models up from what I was asking for, and a suitable contract.

I've just rung Orange five minutes ago, and guess what? I can have a shiny new N8 for free, double the minutes I get now as a loyalty bonus, Data allowance, and all for £5 less than I'm paying now!

Reeeeeesult! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I'll keep you posted as to how I get on with the phone.
