Actives for pub work

Hi all,

I am looking for some reccomendations for a set of (Cheap) small active speakers suitable for just doing karaoke/music/pub quiz in small bars.

I was thinking along the lines of 8 inch full range actives if they are up to the job.

The reason is I think it is total overkill taking along my usual DB tech 12" Opera live 402's

I guess I'm looking for something small and neat that I can easily pop in the boot of the car along with the midi player and laptop.

If anyone has any suggestions please.

Well i just recently bought these:

Have a look at PSR8a's that may well do what you're after. Never going to fill Wembley Stadium but I find them suitable for smaller jobs.

Being a sceptical soul, I'd prefer to see them used with sub to help out, but I agree with the theory.

Perhaps look at one of these three piece rigs, where the sub powers the tops. Some of the LD are like this I think, and I've heard some of the small McGregor systems, which impressed me a lot.

The D series behringers are light, sound good & have both jack & XLR inputs. I use the 12" ones all the time & have never run them full pelt even in a sports hall.

Why are the DB Tech's overkill? They are 12" cabs that are relatively small and light and surely it's better to have headroom, especially for karaoke? The only time I'd use the PSR8A is for background music or karaoke in my front room!

I personally think that you'd be spending money for the sake of it. The DB's are perfect for the job.

Yep - 12" cabs are fine. I've used Cromo 12s in my local pub (and for private gigs)

I've just got a nice small LD Systems 10" active monitor, but wouldn't want to use that in a pub as sole PA unless I used a sub.

I guess if you don't have a backup PA system, then getting something else makes perfect sense... but otherwise its a waste of money going to a different PA.

in terms of overkill the DB Opera tends to dominate physically the small local country pub - plus they don't fit into the car's boot.

I was merely looking for something smaller that does the job.

Simple question and not getting at anything but do they need to go in the boot of the car because they need to be hidden? In other words, do you DJ there and have a few beers and leave the car?

If not....they will sit on the back seats won't they?

And no they wont fit on the backseat as the car is a convertible :eek:

10 inch RCF? they are very loud and light. But not a cheap option :)
