qsc connections

was just searching about on the forum looking at qsc k posts......

i thought last night my k sub wasn't as good as first suspected, sounded a bit muddy to be honest but it was in a marquee sounded booming from my decks and just infront.

i was running from the mixer (djm-800) into the sub with 2 xlr's then from each out on the sub to the inputs on the k10's

sub phase was set to normal tho i did try reversing it and the k 10s were set to ext sub tho i did switch to normal to get some more bass,

looking through another topic on here bass has been improved by going to the speakers first! might be a mission as id have to have 2 long xlrs to link back to the sub


has any one experienced this?

Speak to Darren. It's weird, goes against normal practice, but apparently works! :eek:

As for the long XLR cables, well us passive lads don't need 'em. :p :D :D :D :D

baffling i even checked out the qsc website n thats what they show too,

seems odd dosent it?

looks like i might try this out with some other xlrs then if it works il just have to get 2 more long ones to run back to the sub

i was told by a shure guy (qsc distributor in uk) to go mixer - tops - bin and always did when i had my hpr sub with my k12s

thats what im findind seems to be the common?

im guessing the muddy sound is because the sub is receiving full range signal from the mixer, and im guessing when switched to ext sub the k10's provide a low pass signal to the sub seems weird as most subs fo in line first that ive seen? and have a high pass switch for the outputs?

which thinking about it using logic this would explain why the k10's have the ext sub switch

so looks like i might to get the best performance knock up 2 more xlrs to run back from the k10's to the sub

I've tried both ways and had about the same results, though I do use RCF subs.

Mixer - subs - high pass out, crossover set at 120 Hz. tops on full range, but they will only get what the crossover is set at.

Mixer into tops, tops set on ext sub and then down into subs.

I found the second way to take more cabling, but both sounding the same.

just set tham all up in the house ran straight to the tops then into the sub sounded bassy as hell in here, tried it the way i did have it sounded pretty much the same, im probably going to get some long xlr's and run it tops then back to the sub, as that is the way the manual says so there must be a reason for this

Don't forget that sound goes no-where when it is outside, so bass will feel less as it has nothing to bounce off. I had the same problem recently with my RCFs also in a marquee.
