Active monitors

Looking for personal recommendations for a single active stage (wedge) monitor. Doesn't have to be high spec, just something cheap an cheerful for the occasions I could do with a monitor speaker

100 - 200 watts will be ample.

I don't have a budget in mind so will consider anything within reason.

I've got an LD Systems 10" (bi-amped) here as a monitor:

~£170 (for club members)

125W(RMS), but pretty good SPL.

I have a pair of the 12" versions that I used for a venue install for background last Christmas and for that and I suppose for monitor use, they'd be fine, but if you use them for FOH, they run out of steam very quickly.

Is space/weight an issue?

Most of the plastic active cabs out there can be used in a 'monitor' position and would probably do the job perfectly fine.

I'm currently looking for some foldback monitors for my band and the Wharfedale wooden cabs are getting highly recommended - but that's for live band use, don't know how they'd fair for music playback!

Kind of. I already have a spare pair of mackie 450s lying around that would do the job just fine, but I really want something smaller and lighter if possible.

I bought an SRM150. It is in the range you seek. To give you an idea of the power - I use the speaker for lecturers giving talks for upto 30people. Lee
