Emails on different computers........

My office pc is naturally where I receive all my emails. I have a couple of laptops (One playout and one media one) one of which I will be taking with me to visit some of the family up north for a couple of days. My question is can you set an email account so all the emails I download on my laptop from the next couple of days will be also downloaded when I get back later in the week on my office pc?

I did this one before and it caused me no end of hassle because replies and large parts of conversations were on two different pc's. I can't take my desktop unit with me but don't want to miss out on emails.

I'm using Windows 7 and Mail currently.

I've relatively recently sorted this out myself but using Thunderbird. I'm lucky that my ISP (who I have my main email account with) supports IMAP (plus they provide webmail too), so that my local computer(s) sync with the main email server whenever I log in.

i use gmail and i can go on any computer or phone and they are sync together fine

+1 for IMAP, most modern mail hosts support this.

Most will be able to provide you with step-by-step guides on setting up your mail client.

Within most email products' POP clients you can elect to leave copies of messages on the server for X number of days. If you do this on all the devices which access the account, and set X to a value longer than your time away, then each should sync nicely the first time they each connect back to the various accounts configured therein.

The only thing you do need to watch for is the server's maximum mailbox size and ensure that's reasonable when you consider X.

Been on IMAP4 here for years. Just remember to take backups of your hosting account...
I've not used POP3 for ages - the ability to create folders makes IMAP a winner.

If you want to use POP (IMAP isn't always available, or if it is mailbox size may be limited) then do as Vectis says and set all but your main device to "leave a copy on server for x days".

Just remember to BCC yourself in any emails you send while on other devices, so you also get a copy of these sent items when you return.

Your host will probably also provide a webmail interface to your POP box(es), and this would do the job as well....also BCC yourself when sending from here, too.
