View Full Version : New Laptop with Optical Output required!
Hey guys,
Unfortunately one of my friends has just spilt half a pint of cider over my laptop! It's gone into all the sound card and keyboard, along with the blu ray drive! :(
Sooo.... As per the thread title... I need to find a new laptop which has OPTICAL OUTPUT as this is my prefered choice and has cleaner sound!
I'm not too worried about price ( however under £1000 would be better! )
Anyone got any suggestion???
I have a gig on Friday so if I can pick it up in a store... even better!
I'm doing some window shopping now... but wondered if anyone else uses optical out... and can recommend something :)

That would be a Macbook Pro then :)
Sorry about your now EX friend and the cider incident.
Does the MBP have optical out ? I thought it just had a traditional sound card.
I use a Native Instruments Audio 6 with mine, which, to my ears has excellent sound quality and I have used it in clubs.

Yep. Apple refer to it as "Digital" :

Fair enough, hadn't realised that, and not sure where I would attach it to anyhow or what sort of cable to use.
It wouldn't be ideal anyhow though because it would just provide a single feed so all mixing would need to be done internally with no headphone monitoring ?

It's an all in one socket. You use the 3.5mm optical cable to optical. The mac knows that an optical cable is connected so knows what do do etc. Rather clever. :). Plus its digital meaning you could have about 10 channels of audio or more down it!

So I would need a digital mixer to take advantage of this though and some way of telling Traktor this is what I intend to do? Anyhow we are hijacking the thread.
