I have a garage im converting into a mini nightclub its about 13' wide and around 25' long.

Currently my equipment are as follows

- Panasonic AK770 Sound system 700 WATT with a 16" subwoofer.

- 30mw Green Laser cant remember the make but its one of those not-so-good-quality items (possibly going to burn the house down at 1 stage)

- Wikid mini fog machine (terrible and overheats all the time)

- Mini 20 WATT strobe light (feels and looks cheap, because it was)

I want to make improvements on my current equipment but i dont know where to get them from, i want decent items but not at a stupidly extortionate price. (not that i wouldn't pay it its just my fiancee would cut my nads off)

Did you mean bedroom Charlie lol.

Sounds plenty enough for that size area, I would IMO get rid of the strobe though

What's your budget Dave?

never thought of a budget yet like, probs

around or less £150 for laser
around £70 for smoke machine
under £60 for new strobe light

Open to new ideas on new stuff, but i dont see the point in getting wizards or things along that line since it would be a waste of money :\

i seen this store on the alibaba website called reke lasers... she hit me up with a price list and i was seriously impressed

Surely an area that size you wouldnt need to spend that much on a smoke machine ???
I think in this instance fleabay is going to be your best friend

Fair play on the smoke machine thing ... its just my experience (limited it is i know) with smoke machines is poor... iv'e got this terrible handheld one and the fill ratio is terrible. What sort should i be looking at ?

ok, here we go ....

This is what I would do with a £280 budget ....

For sound, assuming you don't live in the middle of a field and have some neighbours, then I would leave this as is, but think about, if you haven't already hooking up a laptop/computer to this, which will make song selection easier and potentially your guests could choose what they want to hear.
Media Player, Itunes, Media Monkey or Virtual DJ Home make good free players. You may wish to route audio through a better soundcard if the audio quality is not up to scratch such at the numark DJIO.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NUMARK-DJiO-USB-AUDIO-INTERFACE-FAST-DELIVERY-/260774240421?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cb75b20a5

I would spend the money on lighting and smoke and look at second hand items that you can get under control.
£30-35 pounds gets you a basic smoke machine which will more than fill a garage. Plenty of examples of ebay.

Then would look at getting some DMX effects second hand. Halogen effects are 'out of favour' generally at the moment, so there are plenty around. As you are allowed to use smoke, scanners would look brilliant and look no further than the Acme Dynamo range. The 100w will be bright enough and would look great with 4 units surrounding your dancefloor area. Pick them up off ebay and look out of a CA-8 controller included which gives basic control (this was included in a lot of packages that were sold).

In terms of lighting I would then look at some LED wash lighting. Firing down the long end of the room, one par 56 or 64 would be enough at each end or if you have a defined area with tables and a dancefloor perhaps a single par 64 covering the dancefloor and 2 colourburst uplighting the table area (as mood lighting). Set the colourburst to static and the par 64 to sound to light for colour changing.

Keep your laser and add a simple switch next to your playout area so it can be switched in. Fire it down the long end of the room towards the dancefloor. Even cheap lasers look great with smoke.

You may wish to do this with the strobe too, or perhaps gain control over your new DMX lighting with a cheap DMX controller (slight DMX learning curve needed). Plenty around second hand on ebay ..
e.g. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chauvet-obey-DMX-controller-/190551719813?pt=UK_ConElec_LightingLEDsStrobes_RL&hash=item2c5dc47f85
Then you could strobe your scanners and LED lighting via DMX control and set up some chases for slower fades and quicker stuff for the more upbeat music.

Feel free to ask questions. This sounds like an interesting project!!!

Dave - to be honest this is a forum for Mobile DJ's, and we're more than happy to help anybody if they have genuine Mobile DJ related questions.

It appears you are having a party in your garage using a home stereo, a few lights and a bit of smoke - we're really not the right place to seek advice about that sort of thing.

If you want to become a Mobile DJ please feel free to browse the forum using the search facility where you'll find the answers to most of the basic questions.

But please no more posts about a party in your garage.

Thanks for your concern, Lucy, but it didn't say that earlier. Several 'other' changes were made that were completely off the wall, too.

We really do not need childish people on here who do not know how to behave themselves in decent company, so it's 'Bye, bye Dave!'
